Montserrat vist

Hi we would like to take a visit to Montserrat tomorrow, where do we buy the combined visit tickets with funicular and rack railway? The site says that the tickets are available from vending machines at a '1st Corona Station'...we have no idea what that is??? We would like to purchase the 27.50 euro option....can anyone advise?

You can buy the ticket from a person at the train station. The folks in the station and metro in Barcelona are so very helpful. Look for track R5.

Here's the web site I used for Montserrat information. It will tell you everything you need to know.

Helpful note: On your way back get on the train as soon as possible and fight for seats. Many people had to stand.

Assuming that you are currently in Barcelona:
At Placa Espanya station - follow signs to "FGC" if you go there by metro. The FGC station and ticket booth is also underground.

Thanks so much for your help!! We are in Barcelona, staying in Calle Corsega, which is the best train station to take and can you buy a combined ticket for Montserrat from a regular train station??? We don't know what a '1st Corona estation' is, apparently you are able to purchase the combined ticket from one of those, but clear that we can purchase from Plaza Espania station once we get ourselves there...:)

We bought our tickets at Placa Espanya. It was very simple. The arrival was a little more complicated that I thought it would be. Taking the cable car up was nice. But coming back down there was a long line waiting for the cable car. Many people did not get on and therefore missed the next train back to Barcelona. Others were trying to jump the line. And the train was crowded when we got on. I guess those folks had taking the rack railway down to the train and boarded before the cable car station?

This was 2010. Maybe things have changed.

1st corona: the 1st/central of FGC's (the railway company that runs the trains to Montserrat and elsewhere) fare zones. Which means, with some simplification, Barcelona.
It has no meaning for you as you will start your trip in Barcelona anyway.

You go to Pl. Espanya and buy your ticket there.
Which transport will be best is hard to say as C/ Corsega is looooong. Please indicate a cross street.

The train will stop at the bottom of Montserrat mountain first at the cable car station, and next at the rack railway station. So on the return trip, the rack railway people will board first, and on the next stop the cable car people.

You guys are awesome!! Cowboy1968, we are at 374 Corsega

:)

That's easy.
Walk Corsega to Diagonal metro station.
Take metro L3 (green line) towards Zona Universitaria to Pl. Espanya.
While the ride to Pl. Espanya will take only 10 minutes or so, try to get there with at least 15 minutes or so ahead of the FGC train departure to Montserrat. There can be some lines at the ticket booth. But you can also buy the tickets there from the vending machine.

<< I guess those folks had taking the rack railway down to the train and boarded before the cable car station? >>

That's correct; nothing has changed. The funicular station is located before the cable car station on the return journey. We took the funicular but still had to scramble for seats on the train.
