there are direct trains and trains which change in Lausanne, taking 1 to 1.5 hours....

I don't know how you define "best," but the train takes less than 90 minutes. Other than a private transfer, I can't imagine anything easier.

You will need to use correct spellings when you search the timetables... Geneve and Montreux.

Montreux (noting spelling correction only so you can find things online!)

Take the train. As already mentioned, some you have to transfer in Lausanne, but there's one each hour that goes direct thru to Vevey and Montreux. First or second class tickets either one are OK.

On Sundays, direct Montreux bound trains leave Geneva airport at 5.20, 6.02, 6.20, 7.02, 7.20, 8.02, etc. until 19.02, 19.20, 20.02, 20.20, 20.50, 21.20, 21.57. Journey time 70-80 min.

Oh, I see, 2 time slots each hour :-) thanks for the correction or update. I just remembered my friend told me exactly what time to be on one so as not to have to bother with the transfer. And depending time of day 2nd class was OK but if it was commuting hours I might want to spring for 1st for a little more space.

Thanks for that . What kind of clothing should I pack for end of Feb. to mid-March ? Staying in Montreux.

I'd pack winter clothing - coat, scarf, hat, gloves. Although by March could be getting into the 50's (F) during the day, so you'll want some versatility.
