Montparnasse restaurants
 

Will be staying in the Montparnasse area early June. Any restaurant suggestions for good restaurants that aren't really expensive? My husband eats about anything, but I eat only fish and foul, preferably not duck. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

lol @ 'foul'. Think you mean 'fowl'. Two quite different things!

My recommendation would be Montparnasse 1900, which I took a friend to and which we both really enjoyed. My husband enjoyed it as well - and he's hard to please (he's French, but travels widely across Europe for his job, so is exposed to a variety of cuisines, and standards thereof, regularly).

Failing this, walk up the boulevard Montparnasse a bit more (towards the Necker hospital area), but keep looking to your right. There are lots of winding streets in the 14th that are full of excellent creperies.

Enjoy - it's a lovely area of Paris and one that I wish more people would visit!

Yes!---The one that I just yesterday thanked another poster for having recommended to us in the fall when we were there. We spent ~$100 for 2 including a glass of wine each and dessert.

If you don't mind busting the budget for one night La Ciel atop the Tour Montparnasse has a great view and wonderful food.

We have stayed in the 14th a couple times and really like the area. Cafe Vavin is wonderful for cafe creme in the mornings. La Creperie Bretonne on rue du Montparnasse has all sorts of crepes. We first found it in 2001 and went back in 2011 and still really enjoyed it. They have carafes of water they keep in the fridge, so you get cold tap water, which is a real treat in the summer:) This place is a sit down restaurant, but is not expensive at all.

We just ate at Le Templier, 25 Bis Rue Armorique, a couple weeks ago. It's actually in the 15th, but very close to the Montparnasse Tower. Very good, classic French fare, and fantastic service. Full of locals when we were there.

Le Grand Bistro de Breteuil which is actually in the 7th but close to the 14th. This is f/k/a Bistro de Breteuil but recently renovated and upgraded - below is an IMHO dependable review.

Two places I've eaten in Montparnasse stand out, the Breakfast Buffet at La Coupole. A famous old-timey place but worth a visit. If I remember correctly, you told the waiter which items you want and they prepare them for you and serve you at the table. The second was lunch at Crêperie Josselin. Nothing spectacular, but inexpensive and very good.
