Montmartre in the snow

Here is my little photo report about yesterday's heavy snow in Paris. Most of it melted this morning, but now it is snowing again, so who knows?

Wonderful photos! Paris is having more snow than here in DC.

LSky Jan 21st, 2013 06:10 AM

I always enjoy your photos kerouac! Thanks so much. Enjoy the cold. You really can see so much more structure without all those pesky leaves in the way :)

Kerouac, merci, merci. Just reading about snow in UK too. You never miss an oportunity to show us yet another beautiful side of Paris...

nytraveler Jan 21st, 2013 09:15 AM

Very pretty pictures.

Don't know about "heavy snow" in Paris - what was it - about 4 inches. (For us "heavy" would be 18" and up).

kerouac Jan 21st, 2013 09:19 AM

Indeed -- it was just 4 or 5 inches at the most, which is about 4 or 5 inches more than we normally get. Today was black slush day (not photogenic in the least). Right now it is snowing again (as it has been for the last 3 hours), but the temperature has not yet dropped below freezing, so there is no new snow report in the works yet.

Love the cat on the statue, and the fact that the artists were still out there with umbrellas over their easels.

Songdoc Jan 21st, 2013 10:09 AM

All the pix are fabulous--but I especially love the ones with the cat.

Merci, Kerouac! What a lovely trip to Paris you gave us. I've been lucky enough to have enjoyed Paris in the snow and it is quite magical.

Shhhhhh, stop showing everyone how lovely Montmartre is.

LuLu Jan 21st, 2013 01:11 PM

Kerouac, these pictures are magical! Can you tell me what kind of camera you use as all your past and present pictures are fantastic!

opaldog Jan 21st, 2013 03:34 PM

Great shots. It's snowing here right now in Massachusetts, but it's not so magical.

denisea Jan 21st, 2013 05:20 PM

Take it easy on the Velibs.

tomarkot Jan 22nd, 2013 05:27 PM

Kerouac, thanks so much for the great pix. If we can't be in Paris, it's always wonderful to have a visual enjoyment!

YankyGal Jan 23rd, 2013 09:52 AM

As much as I passionately hate snow, I must love Montmartre more because it really does look lovely.

I realize it was Sunday morning, and Parisians can be slow to rise, but some of those pictures totally depict the "village" feel I like so much about that area.

Thank you! (she says while her space heater in a modern office building is on full blast today). ;-)

Margaretlb Jan 23rd, 2013 10:18 AM

Merci!

kerouac Jan 23rd, 2013 10:34 AM

Actually, YankyGal, I thought an enormous number of people were out compared to a normal Sunday morning. Usually at that time of day there would have only been a few Japanese wandering around, maybe some Brazilians too. But that morning, most of the people I saw were Parisians who flocked there to appreciate the snow.

Quite a few of them had the old urban standby for their children, when nobody in a city owns a sled -- they brought big black garbage bags with them to slide down the slopes.
