Montmartre Hotel - Budget
I am looking for a budget hotel in this area for a 2 night stay in April. I was wondering if anyone had stayed at any of the following places or had any other suggestions. Looking for around 50-70 euro for a triple room. The places are: Hotel Bonsejour, Hotel de Carthago and Hotel de Rohan. The Lonley Planet book mentions these hotels but that is all I can find.<BR><BR>Thanks for your help

Jet,<BR><BR>I am not sure you will receive a lot of comments about these places. Can't remember having read anything about them here nor anywhere else.<BR><BR>Anyway, a budget place in the 18th arr. with (apparently) at least some charm that is recommended from time to time is the Hotel 'Prima Lepic', a 2**, on 29, Rue Lepic. Metro: Blanche. A triple runs at some 75 Euro.<BR>I really wouldn't choose the very cheapest accommodation, because they won't be fancy at all.<BR>Good luck and enjoy Paris!

I have a friend who stayed at the Bonsejour on rue Lepic, if that's the one you're talking about.<BR><BR>She was fine with it--said the floors were linoleum and the shower wasn't much, but she's a pretty hardy soul and wasn't planning on spending much time in the room anyway.<BR><BR>While I'm not one of the "don't stay in Montmartre, it's seedy" types, I'm not as crazy about the Bonsejour's location as compared to the Prima Lepic, even though they're on the same street.<BR><BR>Prima Lepic is at the top of the street, absorbed by the rue Lepic market, blending easily into the Abbesses neighborhood. Bonsejour is at the bottom of the street. It's noisier, there's a lot less charm.<BR><BR>I've stayed at the Prima Lepic--our room was not especially charming (it definitely looked nothing like the room featured on their web site), but it was clean, it was cheap (about $64 at the time, but this was in 2000, pre-Euro, and we were getting nearly 8 francs to a dollar). The hotel staff was very helpful and pleasant. <BR><BR>Another inexpensive Montmartre option recommended by a friend is the Ibis Montmartre. I understand it's pretty basic, small, and functional, but the friend who stayed here is an older woman whose preferred vacation is usually a cruise, so it may be that she's so used to staterooms that she didn't mind this. She still recommends it to me, everytime we're off to Paris, but I'm not convinced it's right for us. Sounds like it could be worth looking into, though.

Though I don't think I'd stay in this area if I did I would agree with above poster and choose a hotel at the top of Montmartre. The area around Place Blanche is not great. Plus it is the area around Place d'Abesses and upward that is has the "village" feel.

Agree with the recommendation of Ibis. Basic but modern, sparkling clean and a nice breakfast buffet (not just a cup and a crust) to boot. The Busabout website (www.busabout.com) has a couple of budget hotels in this area. I stayed at Hotel Gerondo - fairly basic, but it was fine for me.

Please note that the Hotel Bonsejour mentionned in the Lonely Planet is at 11 Burq Street in Montmartre. I've been there and it's a friendly place, afordable and very clean. There is another hotel, down the road from this one at 1 Lepic Street that has a similar name: Hotel Beausejour. And that's the one that the author "Elle" has given a bad critic, not the Hotel Bonsejour from Lonely Planet guide which was excellent.

The Central Paris is certainly NOT close to Montmartre. It's near Montparnasse train staion, on the left bank, while Montmartre is on the right bank.
I stayed 1 night at the Central last April, since I needed to be close to the train station. It's not fancy but very comfortable, quiet and the staff is very nice. I will certainly book it again it if I need to be next to the station. The price is great. I payed only 50 E for my single. |
hi -- i've stayed on Rue Lepic -- great area, but bring your earplugs, as it is NOISY (except if your are staying at the top of the hill and not the bottom). Try www.hostelworld.com for budget hotels -- they have tons for Paris and they are reviewed by customers.
