Monterosso July Is Aircon a necessity

We are off to Monterosso in July and staying in the old town... Very excited
We are a bit concerned that aircon is not available at most B&B's
Will we survive after walking swimming and enjoying the CT

This year, around the 4th of July, you couldn't walk anywhere on the Italian Riviera, let alone up steep hills, without becoming drenched in sweat. The heat and humidity just socked in. I ate in Mexican restaurant because it was the only restaurant with air con. Fortunately, where I live has air con so we could get some relief, but it was too hot to shop (hence the Mexican food).

It was abnormally hot. (August was abnormally cool). If you are the kind of person who cannot sleep without air con -- or cannot sleep with windows open because of noise and mosquitoes -- you can't rule out the possibility of a July heat wave in Italy.

Thank you Zeppole... I thought as much... We live in a relatively cool climate so I imagine the heat may affect the pleasure of CT

I don't know you plan to hike in le Cinque Terre, but if July, you really need to get up very early in the morning to do it if you have low-tolerance for heat. The sun on the Italian Riviera is fierce, the hiking trails have almost no shade, so after about 10am in the morning, it can wipe some people out.

Otherwise, if you are not planning to hike, consider staying in a flat town nearby with lots of cooling shady alleyways, and visiting le Cinque Terre by boat or train. Perhaps the coolest flat town with air-conditioned hotels is Rapallo.

Thanks again Rapallo and Levanto are being considered
