Montepulciano to Pisa- easiest transportation?

Hello! We may have to rethink our travel plans, and may be flying from US to Paris, and then roundtrip from Paris to Tuscany. Looks like Pisa is our best bet...what is the best way to get from Montepulciano (our vacation rental) to the Pisa airport- with NO rental car?

I'm thinking bus to Siena and then train to Pisa...is there a faster way?

Thanks! :)

Train according to Trenitalia.com website:
Deaprt Montepulciano 10:39 Siena 11:38
then train 11762: Siena 11:43 Empoli 12:53
then train 3123 Empoli 12:59 Pisa Centrale 13:31

Just under three hours

There are various connections via Siena etc but this is the fastest mid-day

One problem with that last scenario is that there is no train station in Montepulciano. You will need to find transportion to the country station called Montepulciano, and there are no busses that match up with train departures. You can hire a car to take you out to that train station.
I think your bus to Siena and train to Pisa may be the best bet. I really don't trust those little trains that "sometimes" come to the Montepulciano country station.

Wait! What about taking the train from Chiusi to Florence to Pisa? There're 28 direct trains from Chiusi to Florence per day. Trip takes about an hour. You could taxi from Montepulciano to Chiusi.

Buon viaggio

Ah, or take the bus to Chiusi. We did that several times, almost as quick as driving it. The bus stops right at the train station in Chiusi.

Hi Tar,

Did you consider flying in/out of Florence (FLR)?

((I))

ira, getting from Montepulciano to Florence airport is at least as complicted if not more so than getting all the way to Pisa.

Maybe I should withdraw that last statement. If there is a bus from Siena to Florence airport that could work, but if you have to go into Florence then back out to the airport, that's another matter. Meanwhile I suspect that Tarheels flying options may not include the Florence airport?

Hello! Thank you all very much for the suggestions. I wondered if Chiusi might be an option we should consider.

As it stands, we are currently booked on a flight in and out of Florence, from NYC. However, Orbitz notified us there was a change in the return schedule, which would mean we were travelling for 17 hours (not a great way to end a honeymoon!!) So, if they can't fix it, we may get a refund on the ticket and start over. It looks like flying into Paris, and then on to Italy, might be the best solution (and would allow us a weekend in Paris. yum!)

I just wanted to get an idea of Pisa would be too much of a headache to consider, and that we should fly through Florence at all costs. But it sounds like there are some viable options- thank you!
