Montepulciano faves

We are spending two weeks in Montepulciano at Sant"Antonio Resort with our three kids (ages 3,8,20) this July.
Do you have any faves? Restaurants? Markets? Wineries? Sightseeing "must-sees"?
Grazie!

Lake Trasimeno is within sight of Montepulciano--Castiglione del Lago makes a good outing, the lake and its activities. Aquachetta in the upper town of Montepulciano is a great experience in communal dining--make sure to reserve and bring an appetite. Chiusi has an excellent Etruscan Museo if you're into etruscan history. Nearby Montichiello has La Porta which is one of our faves--try to get a terrace table with your reservation.
Bagno Vignoni has the thermal waters and lots of history around its channels and pools. Pienza is an easy drive with many dining options.

The Consorzio of wine producers has a tasting room underneath the TI--they will provide you with suggestions and even group tours. There are many tasting rooms within the town and the caves, tunneling and storage areas are quite interesting.

These are just a few ideas off the top of my head. From what I've heard, you may not want to leave San Antonio but there is a never-ending number of destinations depending on your range. Have fun, Paul.

First off, I am so very envious! The Sant'Antonio Resort is one of my all time favorite places in all the world

Will you be renting a car?

Nico, your host will be happy to help you with anything, and he has so many wonderful suggestions!

La Bricola is our favorite restaurants in Montepulciano. Owned by a very nice father and son. Wonderful service and delicious, rustic Tuscan fare. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Risto...a/150287190776

A few others we like in Montepulciano are:

Trattoria di Cagnano: Great pizza! http://www.trattoriadicagnano.com/

La Grotta (if you want fancy) http://www.lagrottamontepulciano.it/...tuscany.en.php

Le Logge del Vignola: http://www.leloggedelvignola.com/en/about-us

Will add more later. Oh, you will love Montepulciano!!

Grazie, grazie, grazie to all of you!!!
SUch fabulous suggestions. Doppio & Paul, you are making me even more excited about staying at Sant'Antonio. Nico has been fabulous so far and we can't wait to get there. La Bricola will be first on our list of spots to eat!
Bob, the pics are gorgeous. Can't wait to take some for myself.
Any more suggestions and faves are greatly appreciated.

Just what I needed. Good information. We are renting one of Nico's apartments in Montepulciano next June. Can't wait.

FWIW Frances, two outings we are planning are a visit to La Foce and on another day a visit to Abbazia Monte Oliveto.

wekewoody, make sure you carefully plan your arrival time at Abbazia Monte Oliveto. It's closed for a few hours in the middle of the day for lunch and prayers. FWIW, it's one of my favorite spots in Tuscany.

Thanks Jean. I think it reopens around 3:30 pm. We would have lunch, go for a drive and then hit the Abbey.
