Montepulciano accommodation, recommendations
 

We have decided to stay in Montepulciano in an apartment for a 1 week stay in October. I have sent an email enquiry to al Poggiolo but have not received a reply yet. It has only been 2 days. Has anyone had dealings with them? Should I email again.

I also looked at Politician Appartments but can't seem to find much information on them.

We would have a car so will need to have somewhere to park it. We plan to use Montepulciano as a base.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

You won't go wrong with either of your options--and there is parking for each close by the apartment. Giacomo at Politian is a fine fellow--have you looked at his website? Plenty of info there. www.politian.com And all the travel sites have reviews--Slowtrav, Tripadvisor.

Perhaps they closed for a few weeks in January. Have you checked your spam to make sure a reply didn't go there?

I have received a reply back from al Poggiolo and have been offered Giardino apartment 2 for a 1 week stay. It looks very spacious and has good reviews. I am thinking of renting this apartment and will contact the owner again.

Hello Bob - id you stay at Politian this year? Is it in a good location - that is - when we stay in Italy we like to walk to the main piazza of a town for an evening drink and so on. Would the Politian be well based - and if so, how long does it take to walk to the main Piazza?

The heart of town is Piazza Grande, which is only a :10 walk from the apartments. However, that walk is all uphill. There are 4 good places to eat within that radius---two of which are not up the hill into the centro. Be sure you have a good map of the city before you arrive.

VickyO: You didn't ask for an alternative recommendation but I'd second the OP's choice, Al Poggiolo. It's at mid-level (thus reducing the cluimbing up and down) but has great views over the countryside.

We've stayed there 3 times and sent 2 sets of friends there.

BTW, one small amenity that should not be overlooked: Al Poggiolo offers parking in their garden area, which is secured by electronically controlled gates.

More important, the 2 sisters/ owners are simply the nicest and most cultivated people and the apartments are spotless and well equipped.

Hi VickyO - we stayed at the Politian apts. a few years' ago and liked it very much. It's true that there is a lot of uphill walking to get there. If I were to go back I would really like an apartment with some sort of balcony or terrace. We loved Montepulciano.

Hi Micheline - great to have your feedback. Did you have apartment 1 or apartment 2? I agree with you - we like a balcony or terrace - I am trying to work the layout of the house: it seems apartment 2 has access to a garden, yet is on the top floor? Can you please help clarify for me? We will be there a week, and do like even a tiny balcony to sit on. I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks.

And I also would love feedback form others regarding the apartments Al Poggiolo - we don't mind walking, but we do want to be able to go out easily for a drink or a coffee and sit in the Piazza. As we will be there a week - as I said above - a tiny balcony or terrace is important to us. I will do some more research on Al Poggiolo as well, and welcome more comments. Thank you all.

We had apt 2 and yes it does have access to a garden at the back but it just did not seem inviting. I don't think anyone ever uses it. I loved the apt and there is a wonderful view from the bedroom where we could sit and have a glass of wine but we would still have prefered a balcony. It is on the top floor and a little complicated to get to. I don't want to talk you out of it as Giacomo is very welcoming and the location is great and the bedrooms are beautiful but next time I would try another apt.
