Montepulciano
Any suggestions for a hotel or B&B in Montepulciano? We will only be there for one night, and would love some suggestions of restaurants also.
Thanks. Cindy |
We stayed at Albergo il Marzocco in April 2003. We had a lovely triple room , with a balcony overlooking the hillside (beautiful). At the time , price was 122 Euro with breakfast.

Restaurants: * Il Cittino (about halfway up the hill) * Trattoria Diva e Maceo (at the bottom of the hill) Espressos and pastries: * Caffe Poliziano, hands down. |
There are several good restaurants in Montepulciano, but if you are only going to be there one night, I would agree, Trattoria Diva e Maceo is an excellent choice. Great food at a reasonable price. Have your hotel make a reservation.
I still have the receipt: 2 Pane - Coperto 4 Euro 1/2 litre of wine - 6 Euro 1 bottle of mineral water - 2 Euro 1 Antipasti - 3.5 Euro 1 Primi Piatti - 5.5 Euro 2 Secondi - 18 Euro Total: 39 Euro -- It was our first dinner in Montepulciano, and it was a memorable one. I have mixed feelings about Caffe Poliziano. We walked past it every night, and one night stopped in for a gelato -- it was not very good, and the place didn't give me that warm & fuzzy feeling. Be sure to stop in the copper shop near the top of the hill. He has some excellent hand-made items. For wine tasting, there are a few in the area of the Trattoria, but my favorite was Crociani, near the top of the hill, a couple of blocks up from the copper shop. You'll definitely enjoy your time in this wonderful village. ((b)) |
I highly recommend Osteria dell' Acquacheta. In my opinion the best food in town. It's very casual and inexpensive, but don't let that fool you- the food is outstanding. Be sure to order the pici pasta with wild bore sauce. You will not be disappointed.

Just got back. I agree about Aquacheta, but our favorite is Quattro Venti; very good food, outstanding wine prices, and wonderful atmosphere, especially if you sit at one of the few outside tables.
