Montenegro

Can someone recommend a travel agency that can help me plan a trip to Croatia and Montenegro from New York. We are looking for a kids friendly summer vacation.

i dont think you need an agency
but if it makes you feel secure go ahead
plenty of great info here- this was the starting point for us when we did a driving/ yachting trip back in 2006
everyone speaks english and there are loads of apartments that would suit a family
find out what you want to see and then plan a route
id hire a car
it is easy to drive ( i was full of trepidation but we had a wonderful time driving from zagreb down through plitvice out to zadar and then the coast to dubrovnik
we went to montenegro for the day too - saw the fjord and a few little towns and were back before dark to dubrovnik

are there any resorts on the beach where it would be relaxing for adults and fun for kids as well? are there any all-inclusive resorts?

lanejohann Apr 16th, 2009 06:04 AM

we are not resort type people but we did stop by the markarska riviera on our drive from zadar to dubrovnik
this is a pretty touristy area - pebbly beaches with a backdrop of the mountains
the water was clean and clear but id suggest you bring those rockwalker shoes- at least the ones that allow you to cling to pebbles in the water without twisting your ankle
budva in montenegro was pretty touristy too so check for resorts there

i guess you mean a place with swimming pools and a beach nearby, nice accommodation etc?
i dont remember driving past any huge complexes but that doesnt mean theyre not tucked away somewhere - when youre not in that market, naturally you dont look for it

croatia is kinda quiet and hasnt been hit by every aspect of tourism yet
that is its beauty - for us at least
around dubrovnik and cavtat there are a lot of big hotels which might suit you but i dont remember their names

Thanks for all the info.. you are very helpful.
Did you travel with kids? was it safe?

lanejohann Apr 20th, 2009 08:12 PM

no ,,,no kids
but yes it is safe
montenegro has a seediness about it
around the carpark of kotors old town there were some 'types' but being the age we are we were left alone

i wouldnt like my daughter to go into montenegro on her own ( not after what has been going in dubrovnik after poor Britt's murder..now there is other european police stationed in dubrovnik ...how safe would you feel then ?)

the roads have lots of white crosses planted by the side - that is disconcerting but we encountered noone driving dangerously

i think the kids would be fine
like i said, id be more nervous about young adults who go to nightclubs to be travelling to montenegro

the border guards at montenegro were extremely tough and surly looking
no joking with these fellas
but as paranoid as i am , i never really felt threatened
