Monte Faito cable car (near Sorrento)

Does anyone know if the Monte Faito cable car is running? I think you get on it from the Castellammare di Stabia train station, on the Sorrento-Naples train line. Some posts I've seen on forums seem to suggest it's not running any more, is this right? If it is running, is it worth doing?. I believe there is a hotel within walking distance from the top which has a terrace with lovely views you could maybe visit for a drink?

No response to this?? I assume that means it probably is closed, or it's not a very popular thing to do??

I have the same question as we'll be travelling to Sorrento in September. I have found recent reviews on Trip Advisor so am hoping it will be operating. Here is a link for you.

It says it operates April 1 - Oct 31 unless Easter falls in March and then it starts Holy Saturday.

In another place on the Circumvesuviana website, it says it's closed for maintenance. I would check with a hotel in Castellammare.

Thanks for the replies. Sorrento Tourism also replied to me confirming that the cable car was closed. They didn't give any dates for re-opening either, so it looks like that is off the list of things to do!

It won't reopen until local governments responsible all come to an agreement about maintenance. As you will see if you google translate the article from Il Mattino, there is a mass of squabbling going on about who has to pay. It will probably drag on for a long time and in the meantime, local people are very inconvenienced as this is not just a tourist ride.

Never taken that cable car - what's the lure - what's up top - I assumed it would be, compared to many other cables I've taken, rather ho-hum but surprise me and give me another thing to have to do - if it ever gets reopened and in Italy you never know - it's like one guide said about some wooden scaffolding propping up the facade of some old church -"the scaffolding has been there so long that it is now considered to be part of the facade."
