Montalcino Market Day
Friday seems to be Market Day for Montalcino. Does anyone know what time it starts and ends?
Thinking of getting there early, shopping and picking up some food for lunch, then going to Abbazia di Sant'Antimo in time for the 12:45 chant, eating lunch and maybe taking the walking trail from the church for a while. Do-able? |
All of the market days start early and end by noon---they are intended for the locals. I always try to avoid them since there is no parking in town and the goods are typically very basic and low quality. It is not the same as the charmimg Provence markets--mostly produce, Walmart socks, and cheap clothes. I would go see Bagno Vignoni instead.

Wow Bob, thanks, that is really good to know, guess I might have been disappointed. I guess most of the markets are that way?

Montalcino: Every Friday from 07.00-13.00 ; nearby Torrenieri: 1st + 3rd Friday of the month, address; Viale della Libertà, from 07.00-13.00
No more veggies and fruit and other foodstuffs? Are you sure? |
wrenwood,
I've seen the market in Montalcino and Spello (Umbria) and I completely agree with bob. |
wrenwood,
The market in Montalcino is small, maybe 50 vendors. You can get meat and cheeses (the white truck with the wild boar on the counter) fruits and vegatables. The market is setup for the locals and has what they need. I don't need any of it but my wife usually finds something, purses, tablecloths, teatowels, etc. |
