Montalcino accomodations-any recommendations?
 

Can anyone recommend a hotel, b&b, in Montalcino? Or other town nearby? I am having trouble finding more than one or two online anywhere. We will be there 3 nights in June 08. Thank you.

We stayed there in 2005 and liked it a lot. The owner even parks your car for you and there's a restaurant in the hotel.

I would also recommend Il Giglio. The room was lovely, had an amazing view, and the restaurant below was great.

When I was there in 2004, there was no A/C, so it was rather warm. You might keep that in mind if you're going in late June...

Also recommend Il Giglio for your stay. We had Room #1 which has a lovely private terrace overlooking the valley. Wonderful spot to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner.

The room is quite nice with large bathroom and walk in marble shower.

The hotel restaurant is very good - we had a lovely meal and very attentive service. There are many good restaurants in Montalcino. The owners are happy to recommend them.

We spent 5 days here and can highly recommend this town as a base for Tuscany.

We stayed at Hotel Dei Capitani and enjoyed it. My only complaint was that the walls were a little thin. But large room, good sized shower and wonderful view.

Thank you all for the very helpful information. I am checking into several of your suggestions. However, you have confirmed for me that Montalcino is a good base for Tuscany.

I'm glad that you decided on Montalcino. The Val d'Orcia region is definitely the area we would've chosen to stay if we didn't do the weekly rental. (you can probably also look at lodging in Pienza or Montalcino since they are close by.)

There is a restaurant in Montalcino that everyone on this board loves:
Grappolo Blu.

Nearby Montalcino is St. Quirico d'Orcia and my favorite hotel I've stayed at in Italy...Palazzo del Capitano.

Great staff, nice rooms, decent price, beuatiful garden to relax and drink wine after a day of hill town hopping, lovely breakfast room, and a good restaurant for dinner.

If you're looking for a town with big nightlife, this is not the place, but for a really nice, quaint Tuscan town experience (and very central to go to a lot of the nearby hill towns), I don't think you can wrong here.
