Mont St. Michel question

Does anyone know if there are tours given in English at Mont St Michel? Do you know if they have to be booked ahead, or is it something you have done when you get there? If not, does anyone know of a private guide who can be hired? Thanks

There are tours there that you can sign up for in english. We rented a car and did the area on our own...beautiful!

I do not know about private guides. But I believe there is a schedule of guided tours posted where you purchase your tickets and you just join the group. It lists the language and time if I remember correctly.

Yes, there was a tour in English. We were there in July. We just walked around to catch up with the group, then after few rooms, decided to leave the tour behind and do it on our own. As Rick Steves mentioned, there is not much to be said about the Mont so the tour was not exciting. The one that was neat was their night exhibit. We went their both during day and night (got combined ticket.) At night, they close the place then reopen with different room routing order with sound and light effects.

Jeryl: We joined one of the English tours on the spot and Our guide was loaded with information and insights about the "Mont". Thoroughly enjoyable, although I will admit, we do like that sort of thing. The suggestion on the evening light and sound show is right on. Very entertaining and enjoyable.
