Mont-St-Michel
I'll be traveling in France in September and
would like to visit Mont-St-Michel. Can
anyone tell me if it is possible to reach
this area without a car, say by train or bus?
I would rather not rent a car unless I really
have to.

Thanks

Two ways: by train from Paris to Caen to Pontorson, then a bus to the mont (I think you can also take a train to Rennes, and get a bus there, but I've never done that route).
Or, ParisVision and CityRama run tourist busses from Paris.

If not traveling from Paris, then just get to Caen/Pontorson or Rennes via train, and pick up the bus.

We stayed on Mont St Michel for two nights last year...travelled without a car. I have an 8 page "report" of that stay. If you are interested, please e-mail and I'll forward it.
BON VOYAGE!! for an unique place to visit.

We visited Mont St. Michel in June. You can get there by train and bus a couple of ways as indicated above. Just be sure you work it out ahead. There aren't alot of options each day. Try to stay over on the Mont one or two nights. It is SO much nicer in the evening after the tour busses have left. Also it is wonderful to see it under different tidal conditions. We stayed two nights and used the in-between day to visit St.Malo by bus. A very nice day.
Thanks everyone so much for your advice. I'll be traveling by train so I'll investigate that option further.

Thanks
