Mont Blanc snow conditions in early June.
Hi.
I'm finally coming to the Alps, and I want to try the highest peak. Well, I know the chances are low, but any help would help. I'm going to be there in the second week of June. 1. How is the snow level (from Tete Rousse to Gouter ref.)? I am planning to take the tramway du mont blanc to Mt. Lachat and getting to Gouter the first day. (time permitting, if I leave early). But excessive snow could cut me off. 2. If I do that, do I need a rope to cross Grand couloir? How long?(I have crampons and an axe) 3. Is it illegal to sleep in a Bivy (weather permitting)? (I'm not sure if I want to stay in a refuge) And how recommendable is it? And...... is there anyone who want to join me? (I have been to sierras, but haven't summited anything like Mont Blanc. ) Thanks a lot anyone :) -Sachi |
I suggest you do a Google on climbing Mt Blanc. Have a look at http://www.chamonix.net/english/moun...lanc_climb.htm for a start, and then look further online.
I recommend you consider hiring a guide too. |
Is soloing Mt Blanc permitted? I thought all climbs had to have a guide

Of course I did research. But the snow conditions in grand coloir is not the easiest to find online. Specially when it changes from year to year. Any info on that?
Also some people suggested that a rope (to cross g.c) is not necessary, just looking for some opinion... And yeah, there's a plenty of solo trip reports. the problem is that early June is not the peak season, and i feel like there might be only handful of people. thank you. |
No way of knowing what the snow conditions will be until just before you go. Every year is different. It could snow while you are there even.
I think you need to find a climbing forum for better advice than you'll get here - we are mostly less adventurous types.:) |
