Mont Blanc

I plan to do a self guided trek on the Haute Route in July, 2016. After I want to do a guided hike up Mont Blanc. I will be acclimatized and have experience with ice ax and crampons and therefore would like to do a 2 summit. Any suggestions on guides? Has anyone used OnTop Mountain?

Would by interested in any suggestions on self guided items for the Haute Route?

Barb - ignoring the stupid comments above, I would have thought that the people to talk to are the guides in Chamonix who have the experience you need:

Intrepid though many fodorites are, you are not going to find many people who have climbed Mont Blanc here.

Good luck!

I was really hoping this thread was going to be about the dessert Mont Blanc. Though related in name and inspired by your mountain trek, the sweet one is the only one I've experienced. Womp-womp. :)

Barb,
I have climbed Mt Blanc via Tete Rousse - Gouter huts.

Are you asking if a 2 day summit is possible? I think that is a bit aggressive. We made the summit on the morning of the third day.

As for guides I think Ann made a good suggestion. We climbed with a friend who is an experienced mountaineer.

I am happy to answer any questions if this thread survives.

Do you mean Haute Route (I wouldn't do that in July) or WALKERS Haute Route (almost endless, but easy hike if the weather is fine)?

Are you talking about hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc? My DH and I went this past summer -- end of June/beginning of July. We went with an American active tour company, which contracts with French guides from the Guides de Chamonix. To complete it, Chamonix to Chamonix, was a full 9 days, with no break. It was very hot -- the Alps were having a heat wave and it was about 32-35 C (plus or minus a couple degrees) for 8 days in a row. We did meet up with random people doing it themselves, but not one person alone.

We went to the observatory deck on the Aiguille du midi and did see people on the side of Mont Blanc attempting an ascent.

Well I can only thank the OP for bringing this to my attention .

I had absolutely no idea that the climb was feasible for those without high levels of experience. I have done hundreds of peaks in Scotland and England.

It is incredible to think that a simple post here has redefined my few remaining ambitions in life.

My son and I have talked about Kilamanjaro when he's older.

We are adding Mont Blanc to the list.

Thanks.
