Monet at Musee Marmottan: how crowded is it?

Has anyone been to the Monet exhibition at the Musee Marmottan? If so, when did you go and how crowded was it? I see that it is possible to reserve through fnac, but they only offer 2 times a day. I'm thinking it may not be as advisable as reserving for the Grand Palais. Am I right? Thanks for any advice.

I've been a few times and it was not crowded at all. No line to get in. Perhaps it depends on the time of year though. My visits were in Feb, March and Oct.

I was there once, in early November. There was no line to enter and there were relatively few visitors inside. Might have been the time of year, but I've since found that many people have never even heard of the Marmottan. Also, maybe it's far enough away from central Paris that people who aren't serious Monet fans don't want to make the trip.

We were there last August. Only a few people were there. I think also that many people don't know it's there and it's far enough away from the tourist areas so it's not really that crowded.

That was what I was going to propose, although I wasn't there -- that the museum isn't in the middle of things so a lot of people just don't go out there, and they wouldn't know about it. The typical tourist doesn't do much of anything to find out about special exhibits, they just go to the main museums in the center (Louvre, etc). Besides, there are so many Monets around already in Parisian and other museums, as well as normally in the Marmottan, that I can't see this as being that special myself. The Marmottan never had his best works anyway IMO.

The exhibition at the Grand Palais is spectacular.

I didn't get out to the Marmottan, I was kind of Monet'ed out after the Grand Palais! However it really is something special and well worth going to - if you can get tickets.

Also worth visiting is the Medici Treasures exhibit at the Maillot Museum.

You are right.

We were there last Saturday, while there more people than I expected (probably because of the other big Monet exhibit (at Grand Palais) - there was no line to wait in. I wouldn't worry about advance tickets. I didn't bother with the other exhibit because I failed to plan and didn't reserve tickets in advance.

I've been in March, June, July, August, and October and never bought a ticket ahead of time and never encountered crowds.

I think the OP is asking specifically about the Monet exhibition that is going on simultaneous to the Grand Palais exhibit, not about Marmottan experiences generally.

Thanks for asking EastBayer, I'll be headed there myself in December for that exhibit.

Thanks for all the responses. You're right, amyb, I am wondering about right now. (I've also been in the past and not found it crowded.) Thanks, davispeets, I've decided now not to reserve tickets. And julia_t, we may also be Monet'd out because we are going to the Grand Palais.

FYI, the site for the Marmottan says for the first time they are showing their entire collection of Monet paintings and drawings.

Can't imagine being Monet-ed out!
I did enjoy the Marmottan and from my visit in July, didn't find it the least bit crowded.
