I would like to visit the Monet house outside of Paris, can I get some information on that.

" A little longer trip is Claude Monet's house and gardens (not a museum). You have to take a train from Gare St. Lazare to the town of Vernon ($26 round trip), then take a cab ($12) or bus to his house. The train trip takes anywhere from 50 minutes to 1 hr 35 minutes depending on the train. Paris Visions has a tour - costs about $61 and takes about 4 1/2 hours. The gardens are unbelieveable and you get to see all those water lilies he painted and his house and famous kitchen. Open April-Oct. Closed on Mondays. Well worth going. Tel:011-33-2-32-51-28-21. It's a great destination. You can do it yourself via train as previously mentioned. However, we opted for a minivan tour and it was well worth the money spent. They picked us up at our hotel, we had a relaxing drive and spent a glorious several hours there.

Hey JUST - has Claude moved his house? Has he changed the gardens? Are different trains running? We followed Fred's instructions in September and had no problems at all. If you have something to contribute please do so, otherwise go watch television.There are plenty of cartoon shows that you would probably be able to understand.

Giverny is easy to reach on your own-as others have given directions. If you are a Monet fan visit Musee Marmottan in Paris. It is a delight as is the area surrounding it

In terms of cost and travel time--is it any better to just leave Paris and spend a night out there? cheaper rooms? Also, could you then rent a car, circle around bypassing Paris to get to the Loire Valley? Or is all this too much hoopla, and easier just to take the van trip out, then go back to your room at night in Paris?

Definitely plan two hours for Musee Marmottan - in the 16th - a nice walk down hill from the Arc de Triomphe. Or simply get off at Metro stop La Muette - then walk across the park, five minutes. Along the way, see the last mechanically operated carousel. I believe I counted over 60 Monets out that day. What we did - played a little game - choose the two paintings you could take home. Be sure to grab a seat in the basement and simply look around the room - sublime! Musee is located at 2 rue Louis-Boilly at Ave. Raphael. Open Tues-Sat. They have a nice shop for buying little Monets.
