Monastery in Paris

Someone told me there is a monastery located somewhere behind Notre Dame Cathedral where travelers can stay very inexpensively. Does anyone know the name of the monastery and how to contact them? I googled monastery and Notre Dame, but the results were too numerous to look through.

Any information would be most helpful.

I wonder whether the someone was thinking of the Hôtel Dieu hospital? At one time there was an area of rooms to rent, but I think I heard that the rentals were being eliminated.

There is a monastery offering rooms near Sacre Coeur; I don't know of one near Notre Dame.

* Prieuré Saint-Benoit 3-7 cité Sacré-Coeur. in the 18th. Rooms there cost about 27 euros per day, which includes a simple breakfast and possibly dinner as well, I believe. Their number is: 33 (0) 1 46 06 14 74. The Paris archbishop's office can put you in touch with other religious houses where you could stay (if there are any). You can reach them at 33 (0) 1 49 24 11 44.

Hospitel Hotel-Dieu was my first thought too, though it is not a monastery.

Here's the website, no mention of closing. I thought it was interesting to note that some rooms are handicapped-accessible.

The only monastic guesthouse I know of in Paris:
http://www.sacre-coeur-montmartre.co...bergement.html

Note the curfew of 9 PM, and it seems they do want people who have an actual religious interest.

Thank you, everyone, for responding so quickly.

there's The Convent des Carnes, 1 rue de pere jaques. 15th
The Monastére de la Visitation, 68 ave Denfert-Rochereau in the 14th (only accepts women),
Notre-Dame du Cénacle, 58 ave de Bretuil 7th,
This list is several years old when I did research for someone who ended up staying at the hospital mentioned by Notre Dame.

Priuré St=Benoit 40 rue du Chevalier de la Barrin 7th,(heart of Montmartre)
Abbaye 3 rur de la Source 16th(only men_)

The address of the Prieuré de St. Benoît is ironic since the chevalier de la
Barre was an 18 year old broken at the wheel in the 18th century for presumably refusing to lift his hat at a passing procession. Voltaire campaigned against his punishment.
