Monaco-Nice-S. France Late May?

My fiance and I are going to be spending our honeymoon driving through Italy, southern France and Spain in late May. I know that most of the major Southern France events (Monaco Grand Prix and Cannes)are over by the 27th. We're scheduled to stay in Eze France starting on the 28th. My question is, if we want to take day trips into Monaco, Nice, etc. starting on the 29th, will things still be busy and crowded? I know these are tourist areas so I'm assuming a certain amount of crowded areas but wondering about the general feel of these towns after such big events. Any insights appreciated. Thanks!

I have been there in late May (and will be there again in 2007) and while it is pretty crowded, it's managable as long as you make reservations in advance. Email or fax your concierge now to make restaurant reservations for you and tell them it's your honeymoon.

We pretty much stay away from Nice anyway. We usually stay in Beaulieu-sur-mer. If you are staying in Eze Village, I hope you are into hiking. The hotels are perched atop the hill and there is no car passage. It's breathtaking though. (Both the view and the hike!)

Monaco is probably more crowded just before & after the Grand Prix so I would plan day trips in the other direction for that time.

Good luck. You will love it there.

I have been there the week of the Grand Prix and the film festival and this year one week before.
It's fabulous no matter what and as with most popular spots, there may always be crowds but not so that it will make your visit less than wonderful. Plus, people watching while at a cafe in Nice or Cannes is fun.

My family was in Nice from May 27 to June 4 in 2005. Except for the last day when we picked up a rental car, we used trains and buses to get around. Other than driving in heavy traffic on the main roads that day, we didn't think the city felt especially crowded. There were a lot of people who sat outside at cafes at pedestrian-only areas in the evening. I would describe that as lively rather than crowded.

I've been around there in May and if it is a pretty weekend day, you get lots of traffic. If you want to the famous spots, try doing it during a weekday.
