Well, join the "crowd", Scarlett! I reckon it's a public forum and surely one of my best threads is welcome to this thread. I would definitely be interested in going by the place that jsmith mentions especially since we plan to stay in the 14th during our next trip to Paris.
Ar ar ar, Ninasdream. I guess the trade-off was that you were able to be in the city in which they painted but you missed the works they did!
Giovanna, I think I've seen the Afghan Hounds! And I've never been able to see an exhibit either; I guess I'll have to be content to see the works at separate museums for the time being. It would be wonderful to see them together in order to contrast & compare. Oh yeah, and Surviving Picasso and Pollack (the latter I still haven't seen). I love this trend!
Thanks for the review, Mimi! I did see the 2 you mentioned on imdb.com. Cool.

I wish to correct any misperceptions I may have given. The address I gave is a working lithography plant - not a gallery. However, you may be able to buy a recent print in the adjacent shop as we did.
If you care to know anymore about Mourlot, the State University of NY has a show at the New Paltz campus of posters printed by him. The exhibition is on until Nov. 14 and should make a welcome addition to any fall excursion.

Yesterday I was trying to sort through and throw away part of the piles of paper accumulated on and around my computer desk. I came across this thread about "Modigliani the Movie" which was released in December. I had forgotten about it and am wondering if any of you fellow Modigliani admirers have seen the movie. If so, what did you think?

I've been checking on it weekly, bi-weekly but haven't seen anything yet. I'm not sure it's gone past its limited release dates yet. Could still just be playing in NYC & LA only right now. I've checked with Bauer Martinez studios but couldn't find anything there either. Maybe they're waiting on good buzz from the Oscars????

Thanks for the website. The reviews were certainly less than flattering! But I still would like to see the movie. Thought it would be more biographical, rather than just covering one short period in his life. Please post again if any of you fellow Modigliani lovers find anything new!

I was at the Met yesterday and saw 3 or 4 Modiglianis. He paints women without pupils in their eyes, I just noticed that, kind of disconcerting. So, has anyone seen the movie yet? I am going to try to find the older ones mentioned here.

You beat me to it jssmith. I was going to post the same thing this morning, after having received our magazine in yesterday's mail. Would love to see the exhibit, and maybe if my husband and Jet Blue are willing we might just cross the US especially for the show. We visited DC for the first time last year and would like to return to see many things we didn't have time for.
Incidentally, according to the Smithsonian article, the movie has not yet been released???

Giovanna and others interested in the DC exhibit: It will be at the Phillips Collection until May 29th, so you could plan to experience spring in DC (our shortest but most beautiful season) while seeing the ehibit.
Right now it is in the 40s, rainy and grey, but all the buds are starting to open and the daffodils are out.
The exhibit is small but very interesting. Some of my favorite "long faces" weren't there, but seeing his early work and sculptures progressing into his later paintings was great. The regular collection at the Phillips is also worth a look, especially their photography collection. Alas, it is one of the only museums in DC that you have to pay for- we are so spoiled.
For anyone coming to DC, I highly recommend my hometown, Alexandria, VA for a day trip or a cheaper place to stay. We're a colonial town right across the Potomac with great shopping, restaurants and beautiful old houses. A lovely place for a stroll in the spring.
(I know this is the Europe forum, but I had to get a plug in!
