What a wonderful and supportive group of travel helpers. I believe four floors would be a major issue. On another note, unfortunately my daughter smokes. She does not smoke in her home or anyone else’s. But she would go outside if needed so an easy exit is a bonus. Thank you very much.

I'm afraid I always look to see whether or not there is an elevator. I'm not handicapped, but I'm not young and/or athletic! There's always a lot walking in Europe, as well as stairs, so I try not to add on more at the hotel. And if my cousin and I make it there next year, she will absolutely have to have an elevator.

Same here Susan, I prefer having an elevator or being on a lower floor. DH of course would definitely have something rude to say if I made him climb up four floors.

Last year our Catania Airbnb was on the third floor without elevator, but we had a huge terrace with gorgeous views of Mt Etna on one side and the sea on the other, so it was worth it. But that was a one off for me…

I wholeheartedly agree about stairs vs elevator. We recently sold our condo on Hilton Head Island on the beach. Third floor was awful with groceries, laundry,etc. we managed for 12 years. What I find most difficult is not knowing where rentals are in relationship to getting around London. I really want this too be fantastic for my daughter. If anyone reading this has suggestions, please share. Once I have the hotel/flat firmed up I can get to the exciting part - touring.

Four floors are too much for me too. A couple of floors, OK..

For 10 days I would want to have an apartment if I was sharing with my mother. One room is too small. Also sometimes you may get sick of eating out. The problem is, with your budget you will not get anything super central unless you stick with hotels, most likely. London is really big but easy to get around on public transport, but something in your price range could be 30 minutes from the center. You should check out the hotels people pointed out here if you want a hotel, if you want apartments, check airbnb and see what looks good in your price range and I know posters here will be happy to comment on the locations.

I can see a lot of places in your price range that are not exactly in the center, but not too far outside. The idea of breaking up into two stays (maybe a few nights in a hotel in Soho, then an apartment somewhere else for a few nights) could be nice.

Rialtogirl makes a good suggestion to maybe break things up into 2 (or even 3) stays.

OR - have you already booked the flights? Not that 10 days is too long for London (10 months wouldn't cover it all) . . . BUT London has the most expensive accommodations in the country and really never has a 'low season', If you cut the trip back to 6 or 7 nights instead of 10 then your budget would jump up. The same £1750 @ £175 for 10 nights morphs into nearly £300 per night over 6 nights or £250 for 7 nights. These are much more realistic amounts for London.

OR - keep the trip to 10 nights but spend half-ish in London and half-ish somewhere else.

Or, increase your budget.

Hoxton is a very trendy and lively area. Lots of restaurants and bars. If you like Indian food, Dishoom have a branch there and for live music, The Blues Kitchen is very good.

The nearest tube would be at Old Street on the Northern Line which is not fantastically convenient. It would likely take 30-40 mins to the West End, a little less for the City, Tower of London etc. Buses may well be your best bet for getting around.

Your two descriptions aren't all that helpful. Give us the links and we can probably figure out exactly where the flats are (or at least within a block or so). I found the first one from your post #23 up thread via a fair bit of detective work.

Especially the 'near City' one would be impossible to find without more info. The 'Overlooking Hoxton Square' one - we do know the general area -- but owners can be a bit 'creative' when describing location, so the link for that one would help too.

St Giles Hotel in Tottenham Court Road has availability early October & is very reasonable. It’s 3 star, doesn’t have the biggest rooms, was a YMCA back in the day. A good budget option.

The hotel shares the same building as the YMCA but has been a stand alone hotel for decades. I stayed at the St Giles once (with a package for a 49er game at Wembley Stadium) - was absolutely fine (huge) tourist grade hotel -- Lots of tour groups use it so the breakfast room (buffet) is enormous. Big advantage is its very close to Tottenham Court Rd station which in on the Elizabeth Line to LHR.

Not 'posh' but totally fine and very central. Easy walk to Covent Garden, British Museum, Oxford Street etc.

I can’t believe how amazing you all have been. We have selected an Airbnb. It was only one that met three requirements - ease to get to transportation, neat and beautiful, balcony. Not easy to permit my daughter to smoke. Isn’t that awful. I’ll work on that after our trip. So appreciate everyone at Fodors. Now I can relax for a time then plan our visiting.if there is anything we should not miss, we like food, home decor, art.
