moderately priced, family run hostal, Eixample district Barcelona
found Hostal Benamar in Madrid through FC - looking for similar lodgings in Barcelona, mid-October visit - most FC recommendations are upwards of $200/nt - would like to spend in the range of $125/150/nt

Eixample is a more expensive neighborhood than many others. Very nice though.

What dollars are you using.
I suggest you look at booking.com then find accommodation that suits your dollar/budget. In the area you want. Mid October is a public holiday so prices will be higher then. |
Not in Eixample, but I use to stay in great value Hostal Orleans on the outskirts of the vibrant Born district. Very central but still out of the most beaten tourist track of the Gothic quarter and the Ramblas area. Some 100 US$ for a double with private bath and all basic hotel amenities, 24h desk, tv, AC, safe etc. http://www.hostalorleans.com/

I know of one or two, but didn't stay there so cannot make personal recommendations. But there definitely are a couple hostals in that area with good rates compared to hotels, in great locations. I found them when researching my own trip.
Here is one which Lonely Planet rates well (but not Tripadvisor) http://www.hostalwindsor.com/ Their website has various other cheap properties it shows you, also. Lonely Planet is good for this type of accommodation (and check Fodors and Frommers, also, they usually list a few very budget places) http://www.lonelyplanet.com/spain/ba...viewed%5D=true You can find several online on Frommers, including this one http://www.hostalgirona.com/ |
