Moderate accommodations on Left Bank
 

Any suggestions for a moderately priced hotel ($100 or so) in 5th, 6th or 7th arr.
Prefer quieter location (not on busy street), convenient for walking, private bath. Planning on late Oct. or early Nov.

Also, we've booked a double room with private bath at the Hotel de la Sorbonne for early September, paying around $110 USD, I believe. It's in the Latin Quarter. Friends have recommended it for excellent convenience to sites and transportation and for its cleanliness. Their room was very quiet.

From a post in July, well, that thread was about really cheap hotels...in which I had suggested the Hotel St. Andre des Arts...and she made a great deal of sense!

Message: From another forum, a poster wrote after mine (the point here is maybe I should be corrected!) "Hotel du Mont Blanc on rue de la Huchette in the 5th arrondisement. It is right on Place St Michel at the St Michel metro/RER. It is completely renovated, clean as in spotless, had an elevator and ensuite bath. Also quite a good breakfast for only 6€ considering a café crème alone at the restaurant on the corner was 5€!

I've stayed there twice in the past 4 months and the cost of a single was 53€ per night. Do not know the price for a double or twin. It is 100 times better than the St Andre des Arts where I paid 66€ for a room that was dusty with linens you could see thru and walls as thin as paper. For the life of me I can't see how it continues to get recommendations on these travel boards

Where is Ira with a recommendation for the Hôtel Bonaparte? Well liked spot.

The street is right off the Blvd. St. Michel, but is quiet (except for the early morning garbage collection!). Lots of restaurants, bars, bakeries, etc. Luxembourg Gardens very close by. The neighborhood was my first exposure to Paris and I still feel it was the best choice ever.

At 120 Euros (I think including breakfast), the Bonaparte would be out of the original poster's price range.

Note there are many moderately priced options in the 14th and 15th, which aren't quite as convenient in terms of walking. They would often be in quiet areas, also.

The Abbatial St. Germain, Sully St. Germain and California St. Germain are all nestled close to each other near Blvd St. Germain in the 5th, are quite nice and comfortable and very close to that price range.

The Hotel du College de France (http://www.hotel-collegedefrance.com/), in the 5th, meets all your requirements: close to everything in the Latin Quarter, but on a quiet side street; rooms (which are small) have private, modern bathrooms; rates for a double are €78 in low season, €92 in tourist season. The staff are friendly and speak English, and there's even an elevator.

I can recommend the CDF personally based on a stay in 2002, and it also gets several recent good reviews on Tripadvisor.

Try the Hotel Cardinal Rive Gauche...a 3 star hotel with very reasonable prices...and very well located because just near metro stations! Look at its website: www.hotelcardinal.com

If that is USD that is pretty low nowadays for even 2* hotels in Paris in a nice area. I stayed at the Sorbonne once many years ago and it was fine. The Hotel Muguet is a quiet location and a decent 2* hotel that is around that rate for a single, anyway.

From my observation, a very few hotels might drop rates in early November, but most do not. The ones that do may not be as good a deal as what you want. Paris hotel rates vary mainly by high season (most of the year, going up slightly perhaps at Christmas/NYs, and sometimes a little lower from mid-Jan through Feb and late Nov/early Dec.) versus low season which is mid-July through August. They do not vary by something called tourist season and, in fact, the lowest rates are in the peak tourist months in the summer.

The Hotel Bonaparte,in the 6th, starts at 91E for a single. You don't mention how many are in your party, but the Bonaparte's location is hard to beat.
