MISSING: British Woman in Ecuador

I haven't seen anything about this very sad story here on Fodor's. Help if you can.

Seen on another Forum :
http://www.jennypopeappeal.org/index.php

MISSING: British Woman in Ecuador
Jenny Pope is a nurse from Manchester, England who has been missing in Ecuador since January 9th, 2006. Jenny is a solo backpacker who has been traveling through South America since September 2005.

She last posted in her online travel journal at livejournal.com on January 9th. Jenny wrote, "I'm in Banos (which also means toilet) but its far from being a toilet here. Its mostly cloudforest here but with lots of waterfalls and big rivers and I love it! I'm moving next to Quito where I hope to renegotiate my flight back to Blighty and bring it forward. I think I might be getting a bit travel weary now and I'm missing you all and the weather (believe it or not), and lots of little things..."

Jenny's husband, Dave, contacted ExpatExchange for some assistance from expats in Ecuador. He and his son are preparing to travel to Banos as the investigation seems to have come to a halt. He would greatly appreciate any advice about Banos, the state of the investigation and ANY suggestions on how they should proceed in their search. Please post any advice to Dave online in our Ecuador Forum or e-mail us. Your suggestions will be forwarded on to Dave Pope.

If you have ANY information about Jenny Pope, please visit the Jenny Pope Appeal Website http://www.jennypopeappeal.org/ for more information, contact the British embassy in Ecuador at 02 297 0800 (ECUADOR) or e-mail the appeal e-mail (on the website).

If any of you travellers hear or see anything at all, contact them.

Jen is a friend of a friend from home. I have heard this story first hand from her sister Julie. It is a real tragedy.

Let us all think of Jenny and a prayer or two could only help.

Another tragic story of a missing person. I always wonder how missing people's loved ones keep their composure and sanity. I can't even imagine having a loved one dissapear.
Yes Stu, prayers are in order for sure.

So sad - topping in case anyone can help!

I agree with LoveItaly, a missing person is my worst nightmare. I will hope and pray she will return safely. But if that's not possible, the family needs answers. Let's hope for the best.

The information that JAGIRL presents here is sadly out of date. The husband and son of Ms Pope have been in Ecuador since early March. A man who was employed as night porter/security guard at the hotel in Banos where she last stayed was arrested on June 16th in connexion with her disappearance. Allegedly, there are photos that may be him using her ATM card to drain her bank account and clothing of hers were found in a dwelling where he has lived.

This tragedy has been well covered in Lonely Planet's Thorntree forum. There is a link on the first posting on the South American forum to a thread started by her son in February, now with some 295 entries. That may be a better place to respond than here, since he continues to post there.

Thanks for that update ron.
How sad...

I pray for her safe return

There was an article in the July 11 issue of the Manchester Evening News updating this story.
