Minitel for email in Paris .

The apartment I will be renting in Paris apparently has this contraption called a Minitel that I can use to send or receive emails for .1euros a minute. Does anyone know about these machines? Am I better off finding a cyber cafe? Does anyone know if there is easy internet access in the rue Cler area?

As I recall with the Minitel it's a little screen that is all character based. No graphics, no links, no html. It uses a lot of codes like &quot;key in 95200 for info about skiing.&quot; I suppose it would handle an all-text e-mail OK. You'd really be much happier using an internet cafe. Especially since the minitel is going to run you 6 euros an hour to operate.<BR><BR>I don't know about r. Cler internet access.

Minitels are dinosaurs. I suspect it would take more time to figure out how to operate it than it would be worth.<BR><BR>There's a cybercaf&eacute; called Cyber Worl Caf&eacute; at 20, rue de l'Exposition, not far from the Ecole Militaire m&eacute;tro stop.<BR><BR>For a comprehensive list of cybercaf&eacute;s, you can check out http://www.7utile.com/cybercafes/index.php?dep=75

I agree with everyone else. I doubt if anyone uses this anymore - I think it was provided free to all citizens, which is why everyone has one. Go the cyber cafe route.

Thanks for the info on the Minitel. I won't go near the thing.<BR>Kay
