Mini trip report - Cambridge Botanic Gardens

This is a sort of compact and bijou trip report for the Cambridge Botanic Gardens (in the real Cambridge, UK!) that I visited last week.

The gardens cover something like 40 acres (or is that hectares?) and include mature trees, ornamental ponds and rockeries, a miniature fenland complete with bulrushes, beehives, rose gardens, a scented garden (lavender, thyme etc), multiple glass houses with succulants, carnivorous plants and even a mini rainforest, a wildflower garden and lots more.

There is a small gift-shop and a decent cafe.

The admission price is a maximum of £4 (less for concessions). You get a map included in the admission price which suggests various walks/trails to follow.

There are two entrances - one on Hills Road, right opposite Station Road, which is very handy if you've come by train. The other (main entrance) is on Trumpington Road, so can be easily combined with the Fitzwilliam museum, which is about 5 mins walk away (if that). You can get the Trumpington Park and Ride bus to drop you off right outside.

The gardens are very tranquil (once you get away from the Trumpington Road border) with lots of benches for sitting down. I spent about 2hrs there and was quite impressed, so do recommend it if you are in the area.

Some of the pictures I took are attached.

Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed your pictures. You had a good mix of close up and overviews and a lot of good texture shots.
What was the white flower that was shaped like a globe thistle but had very different kind of leaves?

Sorry, I don't know the names of most of the plants - I am a bit of an ignoramus when it comes to flora!

I am glad you enjoyed the pictures though. :-)
