Hi, Kate,
There is an express bus appropriately named the Malpensa Express that runs from the Airport to Statione Centrale - the main train station. Allow two hours for clearing customs and getting to the train station. There is a site that will give you all the Italian train schedules but I don't have it available.

The Malpensa express doesn't go to the Stazione Centrale but to another station in Milan called Cadorna (also known as Nord). You can take the underground (metropolitana) from there to Centrale. The bus does go directly to Centrale.
I know the details of various methods of getting from Malpensa to the city have been compared recently on this forum. Try doing a text search for "Malpensa express."

This is the website for Malpensa Express. It's a train, it's usually reliable, costs about 7$ and the trip is about 50 minutes.
There is also a bus going directly to stazione centrale http://www.airpullman.com/orari/milano.htm the trip should ke 50 minutes as well, but it might vary depending on traffic.

There is a bus, as stated above, that we took from Malpensa to the train station. It takes about 45 minutes and is very cheap. Buy the tickets on the 1st floor of the airport, I believe there's a booth close to exit #1 (there's a number over the doorway) and the bus is waiting right outside. Very simple.

I just returned from Milan and there are actually two bus companies that take you to Milan railway station, the Malpensa Express and the Malpensa Shuttle. There cost around 8000 lires and are very good and efficient. Choose either or. The train isn't as good when reaching the Main Railway Station. The buses leave outside Arrivals at malpensa.

MALPENSA EXPRESS IS THE TRAIN and goes to Cadorna!
MALPENSA SHUTTLE is a bus, and goes to STAZIONE CENTRALE (main railway station).
Only afterhours (after 11 PM) the train doesn't run anymore, and a bus named MALPENSA EXPRESS substitutes the train abd goes BOTH to Cadorna and Centrale. D
