Millstreet Lodgings

Forgive me if I am repeating myself but I seem to have lost my original posting. I am looking for a recommendation for a B&B or small hotel in Millstreet, Cork County in Ireland. Millstreet is a small town north west of Cork just west of Mallow. We would be looking for 2-3 nights, $100-$150/night.

It is not lost; just click on your name and you'll find it. Sorry don't have an answer to your question.

But it doesn't have any recommendations either . . . .

There are no hotels IN Millstreet, but there are several B&B's, some of which I can personally recommend.

We go there every year and have done so for the last eight years.

Here is the town web-site, with accommodation links:

You will enjoy it there.

Hello Bob (A.K.A. Italian Chauffer),

You responded to my request on February 7th for accomodations in Millstreet, Ireland. You mentioned you could recommend a B&B close to town. I am on my quest again and would welcome any recommendations. Within walking distance (1/2 hour walks no problem) preferably however we will have a car.

Thanks
Corinne (a.k.a. homeinalexandria)

If you go to the Millstreet website that I posted in my earlier post ( www.millstreet.ie ) they have an extensive accommodations page.

I have stayed at Knockdrish, a number of times and would not hesitate to return. It is EASY walking distance to town center (The Square).

The newly refurbished accommodations at Wallis Arms Hotel, actually refute my statement as to 'NO Hotels'. It is located AT the Square.

At the OTHER end of Main Street (opposite the Catholic Church) is The Laurels B&B.

Just south of town (but PROBABLY within the '1/2 hour walk' restriction are Geararoe and Ballinatona Farm -- both B&B.

The setting at Balinatona is PHENOMINAL and it is a short walk to Coomatrush Falls.

My all-time FAVORITE B&B in the area is beyond your 1/2 hour limitation, as it is actually a modern, purpose-built B&B in Banteer called Agherton Lodge.

I've only stayed at Agherton, Knockdrish and Balinatona, but I would opine that any of the B&B's I've listed would be perfectly adequate for your needs.

If I can help with any other Millstreet Info, let me know.

Millstreet is a TRUE, unspoilt gem. Be sure to visit the small Museum located in Carnegie Hall. If Sean Radley is there, I can GUARRANTEE an experience that you will not soon forget.

OOOPS!

As my screen name shows, SPELLING is NOT my strong suit.

It is ACTUALLY COOMEENATRUSH Falls.

Dear Bob (A.K.A. Italian Chauffeur),

Thank you so much for your reply. I will use your recommendations. And yes we have been in touch with Sean Radley. My husband's father grew up in Millstreet. He lived at Coole House of which Mr. Radley has a photo in the museum. We will be sure to stop by the museum. Thank you again for you help.

Dear Corinne, I was wondering if you have any info on Coole House as it was owned by my Great Great Aunt up to 1916.
Best regards
Richard

oliva/Richard: Welcome to Fodors. Just a note to help you a bit. Corrine/homeinalexandria has not posted to Fodors in more than 3 years (unless she has changed to a different screen name) so it is unlikely she will see your question.

I'd suggest you start a new thread of your own titled something like >>Looking for info about Coole House in Millstreet?<<

There may be other Fodorites who can help you but they may not see your post tacked on to an old/moldy thread.

oliva/richard:

If you go to the Millstreet website: http://www.millstreet.ie you will find some info on Coole House, but you will also find links to the Aubane Historical Society publications with more info ... AND, you will find contact info for several Millstreet individuals that will be able to answer many of your questions. :)

They also have a Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/millstreet.town

Millstreet is my all-time FAVORITE town in Ireland and it is filled with some of my favorite people.

Happy hunting!

Bob

Also, if you plan to visit the area, and/or wish to question a local, try Michael and Pam Thornton, owners of:

Dear All, Many thanks for all your help and info. I have been in touch with the Aubane Historical Society and they have been fantastic in their help and advice (it was through them I tried here), unfortunately they have no info on Coole House post 1903.
Once again thank you for your kind help and assistance. The search goes on.
All the very best to you all
Richard
