Millennium Bridge reopened
A coworker came back from London a few weeks ago and - contrary to various published reports that said it would be closed for much of this year - the formerly wobbly Millennium Bridge (the Galloping Gertie of the East, I suppose) has reopened to the public. And from the pictures she showed me, it's once again a popular crossing.

I've heard about the 'wobbley bridge' and would like to see it on our upcoming trip to London. Where exactly is it?
Thanks, Jon

Alex,

I too would love to know where the Milennium Bridge is located. We will be in London next week.

Thanks!

Between the Tate Modern/Globe Theatre on South Bank and St Paul's on the north side.
|
It leads from the Tate Modern (near the new Globe Theatre) across the Thames near St Peters.
|
The Millennium Bridge (which is pedestrian) links St. Paul's Cathedral and Tate Modern across the Thames.

Just as a note, this is not to be confused with the Jubilee Bridge which is next to the Millennium Bridge on the east, part of Cannon Street Railway Bridge - also pedestrian & crossing the Thames. I had heard that this is due to open in June 2002 to celebrate the Queen's 50 year reign.

Thanks Fodorites. Was just in London and saw the bridge from the Tate Modern and couldn't figure out why it wasn't open. Thought maybe security measures, glad to hear just an engineering snafu.

So the question is....

Is the "wobbly bridge" still wobbly? Anyone been over it?

On a previous visit, I crossed the Millenium Bridge the day before it was closed for repairs....it was like an amusement park ride...
|
I was on the Mill. Bridge on Monday of this week.. No, it's not wobbly anymore. It's very safe and secure!
|
Just curious, how long is the walk across? 2 min? 10 min? Longer? I'm not sure how wide the Thames is...
|
I was on the Millenium bridge 2 weeks ago - it seemed fine to me. It would take no more than 10 minutes to cross. It's an interesting looking bridge, with a pedestrian mall from the river up to St. Pauls.
Martha
