Milano-Venice??
Hi,
My wife and I want to get from Milano Malpense airport to Venice and are wondering whether this is possible going directly from airport to gondola??
|
I assume you plan to land at the Venice airport and you wonder if you can take a gondola into Venice. If so, you can't get a gondola into Venice proper, and you wouldn't want to even if you could. It's a fairly long stretch of water that can best be traversed by catching a water taxi right outside the airport terminal. The water taxi can take you right to your hotel, or as close as you can get to the hotel by water. It will cost around $65 to $75.

On the other hand, if you know absolutely nothing about Italy and are thinking you can go from the Malpensa airport into Venice by gondola (which seems to be one way to interpret your question) the answer is emphatically NO.
|
From Milan airport we took a bus which was right outside to the train station and then took the train to Venice. It was simple and easy.
|
Hello:

It depends on what time you arrive. We arrived at 10:30p.m. We took a water taxi to the Hotel. We saved the gondola ride for the next day when we were fresh & totally aware of the BEAUTY of this city.
Enjoy!
|
The "Vaporetto" or water BUS runs from the dock at the south end of Marco Polo airport into Venice, stopping at St. Mark's. About $US 10/each. Schedule about every 1/2 hr., but if it is REALLY busy, you may be out of luck - you can't pack 'em standing room only into a boat. Or if really late or early...?
The other interpretation of your question - there is a bus from Malpensa to the Milan train station - from there catch a train direct into S. Lucia staion in Venice.

I am sorry I was not clear enogh because what I was wondering about was how to get from milan airport to venice in one day.
I would like to thank all of you for answering me and would to ask about which is the best TC, Mastercard or Euro??
|
Yoav, the train is the best way I can think of. It drops you off right at the canal.
|
TC, Mastercard or Euro for what? Paying for the watertaxi or the transportation from Milan to Venice? Please be more specific with your questions.
|
Can I pay for the hotel and some shopping with TC or can I use a Mastercard. Can I use Euro cash money for the train, vaporetto, museum, food??
|
You can use your credit cards (mastercard, visa, and sometimes amex) at all restaurants and hotels, cash (Euro) is still necessary for small purchases and the gondola. Don't be like a lot of people expecting Italians to accept dollars. Bring Euro.
Ciao, Melissa

How long is the train from Milan to Venice? And is the train station in Venice centrically located?
|
-
ca,
Trains from Milan (Milano Centrale station) to Venice take just under three hours; to be precise, the InterCity runs 2 hrs 52 min (several trains throughout the day) and the EuroStar runs 2 hrs 36 min. Schedules can be checked online either thru www.trenitalia.com or www.fs-on-line.com. ES trains are more comfortable (& expensive) than IC --- I'd suggest it's worth a few extra $$$ to travel on Eurostar (second class is fine) for the Milan-Venice journey.

Yes, the train station is centrally located in Venice. Upon exiting the station, you'll find yourself overlooking the Grand Canal. It's one of those eye-popping magnificient scenes --- wowee ! I'm in Venice! Do note there are two stations --- Venice Maestre is on the mainland --- Venice Santa Lucia is on the island itself --- THIS one (it's after Mestre) is where you want to get off.
