Milano or Bellagio/Lake Como over the weekend?

Which would you choose in July? Thanks for any help!

At this late date what makes you think you have a choice of any hotels,---especially on a weekend ?

We visited Bellagio last July, and it was packed with crowds during the day time hours. If you can deal with those crowds, go for it. If not, stay in Milan.

I fly into Milan on a Monday and am deciding if I should stay that night or go straight to Como for a few days, then to CT, and then end with the weekend in the city, or do I flip it? I wasn't sure of the nightlife in Como and what life is like in both areas on the weekends versus the week. Shopping, dining, drinking, walking, exploring.
Jay why do you say Como without a doubt? Please someone tell me the "atmosphere" of both week vs. weekend, pros and cons and why you would choose one over the other.

Thanks so much for any and all advice.

Also, just a thought...because it is July in Italy, is it quiet in Milan over the weekends while everyone heads to the lakes?
