Milano Hotels near Duomo at or under 200 Euros

We’ll, I hope, be staying for one night, tentatively 12 September, near the Duomo in Milano, and leaving the next morning for a morning flight at Malapensa. A contributor here has nicely mentioned a hotel the minimum rate for which is 281 Euros, about 80 to 100 Euros over our budget. We were hoping, alternatively, for lodging at the Hotel Grand Duca di York or the Hotel Spadari, neither of which are available on our chosen date. We’d welcome additional suggestions here for Duomo neighborhood hotels in which the writers were pleased with their experiences. We look forward to links or hotel names we can check on the web.

A PS to our posting, above: We also checked the other Rick Steves' recommendation, the Hotel Vecchia Milano, and it is also not available for that night.

Be aware that all of Milan is safe and well-connected by public transportation (taxis are not an extravagance if using them knocks 100 euros off your hotel bill).

September is a difficult month to find bargains in Milan, due to fashion and trade shows.

Check on Tripadvisor and venere.com for current reviews of hotels with friendly prices, and don't worry if they are not adjacent to the Duomo.

This hotel is very central (within walking distance to the duomo) and near the Malpensa Express train station to the airport (~30 minutes)-

We stayed at Antica Locanda dei Mercati back in 2000. Great location within walking to duomo and Galleria and La Scala, interesting building, tiny rooms, optional bkfst in room, excellent service. Absolutely devine beds and linens!

I don't know if they will still be in your price range, but check their website.

Buon viaggio!

Woowee! Out of curiosity, I just checked the Andica Locanda's current rates. Superior room rate (which is what we had) is up to 200E now. Back in 2000, it was $105 US!

love_travel_aus,

Two rooms for which hotel?

Spadari - sorry about slow response - it is nearly midnight here and just got home form lovely dinner with neighbors.

Hope the rooms are still there.

We stayed at the Antica Locanda dei Mercanti (suggested by Dayle) last summer. They gave us a special rate of 175 euros per room because the family room we requested was not available. The location was perfect---we walked to La Scala, to the Duomo, etc. But I see the prices are much higher now.

If there is a trade show or fashion week going on everything goes sky high, especially on weeknights.

We stayed at Hotel Zurigo - Corso Italia, 11/a
20122 Milan, Italy - 02 7202 2260

We walked to the Duomo, Gallaria, La Scala, Santa Maria delle Grazie to see the Last Supper and Castello Sforzesco. There is an underground train station nearby as well.

The rooms were small but nice and the breakfast was outstanding. I would definitely stay there again.
