Milan: Which Neighborhood

We are looking for a Hotel in Milan for 2 nights. We will be flying in to Linate and leaving with a rental car.

We like to walk to sites, dinner and night life if possible.

Is the City Center, the best location for us?

Thanks,

IMHO it is not. I would rather check out the Brera and Citt Studi areas. The fist more touristy, closer to the center and nicer, the latter, surrounding the Politecnico University, is richer in nightlife, especially bars, restaurants and pubs, and crowds of university students, obviously. both areas are well connected by subway, buses and trams with the rest of the city, all public transportation in these areas is safe until late at night.

Alice, thank you for your reply.

Do you suggest any hotels in the 175-200 range in either area?

Inor

Sorry, when in Milan I usually sleep at home, so I do not know many hotels ^_^;;

Do you know if Hotel Galles would be in a good location? It's near Plaza Lima and Buenos Aires

Thanks, Inor

Piazza Lima/Corso Buenos Aires is a fine location. I don't know your hotel but I do know one where I send my family all the time at exactly the same intersection.
The Demidoff Hotel (39 02 295 138 89)is a perfectly nice 3 star hotel for about 120Euro including cont. breakfast. I send a lot of people there including my parents. It's right on the biggest shopping street in Milan, and two steps away from the metro.
If you have a higher budget like you quoted, stay at the Sheraton Diana Hotel. Really cool garden-bar area that is the most happening place to have pre-dinner drinks. Rooms are nice 4 star style. Check it out on the Sheraton. It too is near Corso Buenos Aires and the metro (always in the center and just 2 stops from Piazza Duomo).
Hope this helps, Melissa

Very close to Hotel Diana there is an area with lots of African restaurants. Check out via Panfilo Castaldi (I think that's the name) for a break from Italian food ^_^
