2010 - I am so jealous!!! I think September will be a great month to visit Milan. Is the opera schedule out yet? How long do you plan to stay in Milan and where else are you going? Back to Bellagio? Have you read davetroy's report? He has some good info about Milan too.
This year we are spending a long weekend in San Francisco in April to celebrate our wedding anniversary, a fun business awards trip to Cancun in late summer and I think we are going to Greece in early October (still in the planning stages). You have been a great help to me on our previous trips - have you been to Greece? Any recommendations???

Hi John:
Our trip will begin in Venice then we go onto Bassano del Grappa and Lake Garda. Next stop will be Cremona and we will end in Milan (4 nights). With the exception of Venice, it's all new territory for us - very exciting! Sadly, we are not opera buffs but I will be looking for a classical concert to attend in Milan and possibly in Cremona.
Still early in the planning stage. Lots of reading to do! I will check davetroy's trip report. Thanks for the recommendation!
It sounds like you have a great line-up of trips planned for this year! Yes, I have been to Greece BUT that was in 1980! That trip was a lifetime ago! Although the history & antiquities have remained the same, I doubt if any of my youthful experiences would be helpful! ;-)
Have a great travel year, John!

Hi John,
Your report shaped most of my upcoming trip this September. We've tweaked it a bit, but we will visit Venice, Parma, Piedmont, Bellagio and Varenna with perhaps a day in Milan before flying home.
I did Cinque Terre 15 years ago during a trip to San Remo. I still have concerns about the car rental and other alternatives after Venice, Parma and Piedmont.

2010 - sounds like a fun trip. Looking forward to hearing about it. I agree, 1980 does seem like a lifetime ago. I doubt that I can even remember very much of my "youthful experiences" from those crazy years!!!

Hi John, In case you don' see my question on my Piemente thread, I was wondering what the name of your truffle hunt people were? At this point there will be six of us (all staying in the same place in La Morra). Grazie. Loved your report and your addition to the CliffsNotes. I'm tasting the Barolo already!

Thanks Tom. I did finally see your question on your Piemonte thread and answered it there. The Barolo was great but just about every wine we tasted was really good. And the people were incredible. Hard to believe that was 6 years ago already and hard to believe your trip is almost here. I know this is completely unnecessary to say but - Have Fun!!

Hi John, glad we caught up with your great TR. We'll be visiting some of the same areas in Sept., 2020. Coincidentally, we're booked in the Hotel Florence in Bellagio. Enjoyed your report; glad you gave up on "Cliff Notes". Your details are so interesting and helpful. We've had some of the same experiences as you describe with car rental and driving in different countries. If you enjoy driving the steep grades and curves in the mountains, the Dolomites are gorgeous and fun! Happy Traveling!

Thanks Tom. Looking forward to your report about your adventures in this beautiful area of Italy. Time seems to be flying by really fast these days and September will be here before you know it.

Stu Dudley, I feel your pain. Like you, I used Shutterfly Share Sites for my photos. After they closed that feature down in March, I have not really tried to find anything else but I was able to copy all my photos to a different section of Shutterfly. The photos are not in the same order I was able to do in Share Sites and there are no captions but I am going to post this link to those photos and see what happens.

I know this is a very old post but this was such a fun vacation for us. It was the first of five great European trips with our friends. Sadly, my friend who traveled with us is now traveling down the path of Alzheimer’s and sometimes when we get together, we go back and read parts of this (and other) trip reports and look at the pics on his TV. When there were captions, he would read them as the picture popped up. It would sometimes spark his memory and he would be able to recall quite a bit. For some reason, without the captions it just does not work the same for him. Sure wish we still had Share Sites but I wish even more that I still had my friend.
