Milan Train Station

Does anyone know the best way to get from MXP airport to the central train station in Milan? How long will it take? I will be traveling by myself. Thanks!

There is a bus every 30 Minutes that will take you straight from Maplensa airport to Centrale Station, Ticket costs 4-5 euro. It takes less than one hour to get to the Station, but allow yourself lots of time in between, because things may happen (the highway being chocked ot your flight being delayed).

yes,as mentioned, morning traffic can stretch the bus ride to 90 minutes, as it did for me once.
Patty, the first time I did that transfer from Malpensa to Stazione Centrale I was also on my own.

Please let me persuade you, if you need persuasion, to keep your luggage light and manageable. Also, when boarding the train, if you have a seat reservation, be sure you board at the correct car of the train. Otherwise, as happened to me, after you have lifted your bag onto the train, you would have to drag your suitcase from one car of the train to the correct car, and the train aisles are narrow if your suitcase is wide.

If I have a seat reservation on the train, will it say on my ticket what car I'm supposed to be in or will I have to ask someone?

Hi
If you have a reservation, it will indicate a car # and a seat #. You have to look at all the little boxes on the ticket.
Don't forget to punch your ticket in one of the punch machines before entering the track areas. Don't worry, you'll see everyone doing it.
Also, the Milan train station has at one end a large tourist info office (often there's a line) with English-speaking
agents. Just allow plenty of time.

Will I have enought time for a 1pm train if my flight lands at MXP at 11am? I really appreciate all the help....

Negative. You should allow three hours between touchdown and train departure.

There are two shuttles that run between Malpensa Airport and Milano Centrale train station. They are the Malpensa Shuttle and the Malpensa Express. They both run every 20 minutes. It is a 50-60 minute drive. Cost is approximately $5 per person one way. As I recall the Malpensa Express was slightly more expensive but had newer, more confortable buses. Patty, I aalso gree that you must allow at least three hours between landing and your train departure time.

If you think the car traffic will be bad (ie you arrive during rush hour), you can take the train from the airport into Milano Nord, and then take the metro to Centrale. Good luck.

Malpensa Express is NOT a shutrle running from Malpensa to Centrale. It is a train running from Malpensa to Cadorna station. This train is usually faster than the bus, but the advantage is usually erased by the fact that ou will have to take the subway inorder to get to Centrale.

Hi Patty,

I have no information to shed on your train station situation, but I do want to reiterate what Elaine said about the size of your luggage, if this is something you haven't considered before. KEEP IT SMALL!!!!
