Milan to Venice for 4 days by car?

We've 4 days/nights to tour with a rental car; don't want to spend time in Milan; nor need to spend any of these days in Venice. Looking for itinerary and stay suggestions in between these 2 cities, June of '06.

Ideas and place names are welcome!!

Hello mfk, shall I assume that you are flying into Milpensa airport and arriving in Venice to take a cruise and consequently have rented a car after arriving at Milpensa to enjoy four nights in Italy between Milpensa airport and Venice? What interest do you have? Lake counry, Verona, Padova, Bologna etc. Museums, churches and so forth. Have you thought of staying in the region of Veneto such as Asolo and the surronding area.

More information would help those of us here guide you to a places that you might enjoy. Best wishes.

Yes, you've got the outlines right on!
We've been to Como/Bellagio/Sirmione (for one overnight and a delightful next day), a quick peek at Verona and the famous balcony; Padua chapel was closed where we left our rental before train into Venice for several wonderful days...all this almost 20 years ago but memories are vivid.

I've heard a lot about Orta; the Palladio homes; some about Asolo but don't know much about the Veneto region.

we love charming small towns; can pass on churches unless some spectacular frescoes not to miss; the quiet roads; the lake district. I think there's a lot more of Garda to enjoy other than the one spot we saw???

Thanks! and I'll look forward to your suggestions. We also love charming inns/B and Bs, farmhouse lodgings and delicious food at local (read: not fancy/expensive necessarily) trattorias.

I would suggest 2 nites at Orta with a day trip to Stresa, and then the next 2 nites in the Dolomites. Either Castelrotto or Ortisei would be good choices. Have fun !

Mfk - Great ideas from Bob. Alternatively you could stay on Lake Garda, or Vicenza, or Trento ...

Hi guys,
Thanks for the notes and suggestions.
We stayed in Stresa the first trip and loved Maggiore; may skip Orta and head directly either to Garda; then to Veneto area.

Have since read up on the Brenta canal; and also a bit about Mantua. Worthwhile??? to see, tour, stay along the way at either locale???

Thanks to all of you!!!
