Milan to Avignon
We'll be traveling from Milan to Avignon by train in October. I'd like to purchase tickets ahead of time since we'll be traveling on a Saturday and want to be sure to have a reserved seat. Can I purchase our tickets in Rome a week and half before we travel? I have checked the Die Bahn website and know the schedule and that we'll have two connections but online tickets are not available.
Ann509, you can certainly buy your ticket in advance for Milan-Niceville route..there is a train that leave milan at 7AM and arrive in Nice at 11:30 i believe..Go to trenitalia webb for the right time. In Nice you must change and take the TGV to Avignon.. You can order your tickets from SNCF by internet and pick up the tickets at the train station in Nice..Or you can order them from Rail Europe, much more expensif, but the company will mail them to your address. I am also going to Avignon , but I will be leaving at 6:15 from Piacenza...(TOOO early for me...) Bon Voyage...

Thanks kismetchimera. The schedule that I saw on Die Bahn had us leaving Milan at 9:15am going through Chambray-Challes and Valence. So, do I have to buy separate tickets for the Chambray to Valence portion of the trip unless I go through Eurail? Is it possible to wait until I get to Rome to buy the tickets and could I buy it for Milan through to Avignon?

Your route is different from mine.. Are you stopping at Nice or you take Valence- Avignon?

Ann509, I checked trenitalia.. there is a train that leave Milan at 7:10 and arrive in Nice at 11;51..Via Ventimiglia(Italian Border), pass through Monte Carlo also. You must descend at Nice Ville, and from there you take the TGV to Avignon. You must buy the TGV ticket trough SNCF or Rail Europe..You cant buy the TGV tickets in italy, because the last portion of your trip ( Nice-Avignon) is on French soil..I believe that this route is better, the scenery through the Italian coast and the French Cote D'Azur is breathtaking...Ciao,
kismet

To kismetchimera, One more question. We've decided to get off the train in Nice and drive to our rental near Cavaillon. We're renting from AutoEurope. They have a location at the Nice Railstaion Office at 14 Their. Do you know if this is near the Nice-Ville station?

Sorry Ann.. but i cant help you.... The Provence is a beautiful region, you will enjoy the sights..Bon Voyage..
kismet
