Milan - Mirror free flights offer

Am going to Milan on Sept 19th with a friend - arriving early at Linate (10.35) and leaving early (06.40 Monday 22nd). How much should I expect to pay for taxi from/to airport and what can I do on the Sunday/Monday between checking out of hotel around 2pm and having to be at airport on Monday morning for 4.30am-ish? That's around 14 hours to kill!

That's an interesting question...
We stayed in at a hotel close to the Duomo recently. The hotel clerk said we should expect to pay appx EU 20 for the ride from Linate. I was charged EU 50. I warned my husband to ask before getting in the taxi once he arrived, and he was charged EU 35. Also, I now understand that you are not supposed to tip taxi drivers in Italy.
Why aren't you using your hotel for your last night?

Thanks for the warning Dreamer2 - my query about having 14 hours to kill was because I wasn't sure it'd be worth staying an extra night because we'd have to leave the hotel at something like 4am! Although it's probably better to have the room even if we don't end up using it much bexcause 14 hours is a lot of time to kill and we'd have bags to drag around with us!

The hotel would probably keep your bags for you even after you check out, but you might want to consider the convenience of keeping the hotel room. You can have a nice dinner, take a shower and change for the flight, maybe get a nap. You don't say if you are flying a short distance or long, but if I were on a long flight the last thing I would want is to not get any sleep at all the night before.

You also don't say whether you are staying in a smaller hotel or a large chain. With a large chain, if they have a lot of vacancies, you might request a late check-out and be able to keep the room until evening. Some hotels will charge you a reduced rate for the sort of situation you are in. It's worth asking anyway.

Thanks for the useful advice Marilyn - I hadn't considered a late check out - and as you say it'd be good to have somewhere to freshen up before the flight.
I've never been to Milan before so wasn't sure if there were many large chain hotels - assumed it'd be mainly small, family run concerns or independent hotels.
