Milan Lodging
 

Looking to stay a Tuesday night in Milan the last week in May during a road trip. Desire something less than $150 with available parking, outside the ZTL and very close to a metro stop for easy, quick access to the city center and back.

Suggestions obviously appreciated...bdj

Where are you coming from with the car or where will you be going after that?

I don't know if it has parking but meets all your other requirements. Hotel Berna. Half a block from Milano Centrale, metro stop on the corner. Wonderful hotel, usually just over €100. The absolute best breakfast of any hotel I've stayed at. I am only half joking when I say I fit in a night in Milan on my Italy trips just so I can stay there.

The Milano Centrale area is outside of the ZTL or Area C zone.

But as Sandralist says it would be helpful to know where you are coming from as well as your successive destination.

Agree on Hotel Berna - very nice hotel with easy access to central portion of Milan.

Willing to stay anywhere on the circumference of Milan if the property suits but coming from the NW on the E62/A8 and theoretically leaving on the same route to catch my connection going N.

If you don't care about the traffic around greater Milan -- have yuo ever seen it? -- then it won't matter to you where you stay outside the ZTLs and near a Metro stop. But most people would really hope to avoid the peripheral traffic as much as possible -- meaning, you don't want to be spendng a lot of time in the metropolitan area trying to get to your hotel and back again to your main route.

The Berna is not so special it makes sense to get yourself into that much traffic and that much parking expense (unless Berna is offering free parking). As long as you are near ANY metro stop, you will zip into central Milan in about 15 minutes.

Nochblad may have a better idea but, were it me, I would start by looking on Booking.com for a hotel within walking distance of the Lotto Fieramilanocity metro stop. That is Line 1, and it will whisk you into the heart of Milan (the Duomo).in no time, no changing changing trains. I've never stayed in these places, but I would check out reviews for Melia Milano, Hotel Portello MiniHotel, Il Glicine and others in the area.

-- Just having said that, I am pretty sure the area I suggested is not a ZTL area, but you would need to double check.
