The Italian Grand Prix in Monza is mid-Sept. That is probably why you are having a hard time. The event is from Sept 14-Sept 16, so rooms are booked from before that time.

I would recommend www.venere.com - - and no doubt about it, booking around Grand Prix time is very, very tough.

For what it's worth, we got very nice help two years ago from

Try the Hotel London. It is nothing special, but it is clean, and is walking distance of the duomo.

[email protected]

We paid 134 Euro this past May.

I've also stayed at the Hotel London on Via Rovello. It's a basic accommadation, well located on a small quiet street and around the corner from the metro. If they're not available, might also consider a place that was across the street from Hotel London, the "GIULIO CESARE HOTEL" --- from the exterior, it looked like it too would be a decent place to stay. Also look on the website, www.tripadvisor, for other suggestions and comments on hotels.

In 1999 we stayed at the Hotel Casa Svizzera at Via S. Raffaele, 3, which was right near the Duomo. The rate was about $120 per night or less for a double. The room was large and clean and breakfast was included. It is a 3 star hotel. Tel. 86461182 and Fax 72004690.

Many thanks to all your suggestions. However I've tried those more expensive one such as Hotel Spardari, but are full already. I've tried to fax my request to hotels like Casa Svizzera, Hotel Manzoni, Cairoli, Verria? but it seems the hotel managements are off for vacations. I've faxed to Hotel London and awaiting their reply. I saw from a travel book today, a Hotel Nuovo is sugggested. Can someone tell me their contact nos, I couldn't find it on web.

Your further suggestions are very welcome.

With deep thanks
Daisy

My husband stayed at the Hotel King last winter and was very satisfied. It is within walking distance of the Duomo and close to the Malpensa train service.
Address: Corso Magenta, 19 Milan 20123
Tel: 39-02874432
Fax: 39-0289010798
We booked directly by fax, but I think it can also be booked using Expedia.

There are a whole bunch of special events in Milan over that period in addition to the Grand Prix. (Excuse the strange date format Y/MM/DD)

2/09/05 - 2/09/08 MACEF AUTUMN

2/09/13 - 2/09/15 GRAND PRIX

2/09/18 - 2/09/22 CICLO

2/09/23 - 2/10/01 COLLEZIONI DONNA

Try and avoid these dates and try www.gtahotels.com
