Milan Hotels
Anyone know of a few hotels (2 or 3 star level) centrally located in Milan? Ones with connecting rooms for families or Junior Suites would be great! When I say 2 or 3 star level, I'm really saying that we don't want to pay more than 180 Euros/night...Yikes, the exchange rate against the US Dollar is SO AWFUL RIGHT NOW!

We've stayed at the Hotel Star which is very centrally located. I don't think they have suites, but they may have adjoining rooms. The hotel is well within your budget range.

last year we pricelined MIlan--because we need two rooms. (4 people) Won Le Meridien, a gorgeous 4 or 5 star right next to the train station. It was great. About $105 per room per night. We stayed 5 nights.

I have stayed at the UNA Century that's close to Milano Centrale (just behind the Pirelli Building), and it's all mini-suite with a large sofa bed.
Weekend rates may be within your budget, but weekday probably not. |
Thank you all. That's a good head start!

Hello everyone. We're not having much luck finding a centrally located hotel for the five of us. I'm disappointed to find how expensive Milan is--especially with the current exchange rate. Can anyone suggest some more places or perhaps apartments to rent? Thanks.

How many nights were you planning to stay in Milan? What time of year (or do you have specific dates)?
|
Hi there. We're going to be in Milan May 30, 31 and June 8. We need two double rooms or a double and a triple. I'd like to keep the tab to around 150 Euros, 180 most! Help!

Try the www.venere.com booking service. I plugged in your first dates, and there were a few hotels with availability that were at the upper end of your budget. (I don't know the room configurations.) Note the guest ratings which can vary widely, and read the guest reviews carefully. You can book directly from this website. Many Fodorites use it.
What is your destination after Milan? You might want to forego the second night in Milan. Leave your packed luggage at the hotel from the first night and take a late afternoon train to the next town. If the June 8th date is to be close to Malpensa for a flight, you might consider staying near the airport or in Saronno which is two stops from the airport on the Malpensa Express Train from Milan's Cadorna Nord station. |
Should have read: "Leave your packed luggage at the hotel from the first night while you sightsee and take a late afternoon train to the next town."

Thanks, Jean. We're going to Alba. You're right. I'll see if we can check in one night early. And yes, the only reason we're returning to Milan on the 8th is for an early morning flight out of Malpensa on the 9th. We probably shouldn't bother going back to city center for that...Good idea!
I'll try with Venere again. And also, if we do wind up leaving only after one night, we could spend a little more for the first night...Hmmm...A lot of planning for ten short days! |
If I were you I'd stay at the Hotel BERNA, a great hotel located about 300 yards from Centrale, with its excellent bus, subway and train connections to Malpensa or whereever-VERY good price/quality ratio here: nice rooms, friendly and helpful staff (there are some excellent local trattoria they can steer you to in that area) great breakfast buffet, even an aperitivo buffet/happy hour as well-it gets very good reviews. (HINT: You don't have to dine in some overpriced restaurant in Milano-do as the Milanese do: it's all about THE APERITIVO HAPPY HOUR WITH REAL FOOD-2 for one drinks, and a buffet spread-FOR FREE-usually up until 9:30pm at night-take advantage of it! Just go over to the Brera district, (via Brera-area filled with lots of nice boutiques as well) "Bar Brera" is a favorite for the aperitivos and great buffet food, also Bar Jamaica, but if you DO want to dine in an authentic Milanese style restaurant-"Nabucco's" on via Fiora Chiari, the antique sellers street, is located nearby, with its outdoor terrace for people watching). This whole district, along with the Navigli area, is great for bars and nightlife; the Brera district particularly, located nect to the Pinacoteca, is quite evocative. Milano is one of my favorite cities, and if you take the time to discover it, it is a real happening place.
P.S. I think you can get a rate for about 90 Euro double at the BERNA for your time period. |
Thanks so much. I wish we did have the time to explore Milan as it sounds wonderful coming from you! We are traveling with my two small kids, however, and so our sightseeing was pretty much going to be limited to "The Last Supper" and maybe some window shopping. I wanted to avoid taking buses and trains with the kids...I guess being unfamiliar with the city, it just seems a bit complicated. Thank you for your suggestion, however!

I have stayed at the grand duca di york...great staff. they will book the Last Supper tickets for you if you ask. They are located within walking distance of the Duomo and just one block off from a main street where you can catch the tram and make an easy few stops down to where you need to be for the Last Supper. If you come into Milano Centrale, just hop on the metro there and get off at the Duomo station ...emerge right at stunnning Cathedral and walk just a few blocks to the York. Nice shopping and restaurants along the way and in the area.

I doubt you could get a room at Grand Duca di York so close to your arrival, and at any rate, their cheapest rooms run around US $300.00 a night. If you didn't want to take the subway, which will put you right at the Duomo, then a taxi works fine from the Hotel Berna-it's not that far.
