Milan Hotel - using Priceline?
 

Considering using Priceline for 2-night stay in Milan. BiddingforTravel and BetterBidding list only 2 "5 star" hotels in what is considered central Milan. And while I realize that what Priceline may consider central Milan or 5-star may be unique to them, wondering if anyone has any experience doing this in Milan or other comments. Thanks.

You can sometimes figure out what hotels are possible bidding on Priceline by pulling up availability through their regular booking function. When I pulled it up for a random date, there were indeed only 2 5-stars that they offered: the Westin Palace Milan ($239 per night) and the Grand Hotel Et De Milan ($526 per night). They use the same star ratings whether you bid or book normally.

Dfourth - you are not correct, it is a common mis belief that the only hotels available for name your own price, are the same ones shown on the regular booking function. That is not always the case, there can be hotels that are only on name your own price.

Gail. Have you looked at the posts on better bidding where people show their results? The list shows what has been won in past, but if you look at the board where people post questions and wins, you might find a bit more info.

Have you thought about Hotwire? Same scenario on Better bidding.

I just got Westin in Milan for $110/night for 2 nights. Had booked back-up which is now cancelled. Westin would not have been my first choice for hotel in Milan - wanted something a bit more authentic - but can't complain about the price since there was no credible hotel I could find for anywhere near that price.

Just returned. While I saved a great deal of money getting this hotel on Priceline, in the end it was not worth it. The hotel was wonderful - beautiful lobby, comfy room and bed, competent staff. But there is no reasonably priced food in the entire hotel. Because of late arrival, rain and it being a Sunday, we ate at the hotel dining room. Dinner for 2 (2 courses each, 1 glass of wine each plus shared dessert) was about $200 USD. No breakfast, coffee or anything available prior to 7 AM - and after that breakfast would run 30-40 euros per person. I realize this is a top hotel in an expensive city - but this was a bit much.

Fine hotel if you are rich or on an expense account.
