Milan hotel

Can anybody recommend an economic and good hotel near Milan's Centrale train station (walking distance)?

How far away is Milan's Linate Airport from the Centrale train station? What's best public transit to take to Linate Airport from Centrale train station?

I have only a half day in Milan, what's the must-sees for that half day?

Linate airport is 9 km or 5.5 miles from the train station - buses link the two every 30 mins (according to Thomas Cook European timetable)

I'm sure there are many choices but from my recent experience I can recommend 3* Hotel Augustus. I reserved it thru venere.com, 1 double for €70 & 1 single for €50 (which was a double room anyway). That was a special rates without breakfast. It was the hottest time of the year, end of last July. Fortunately air'con worked well. Clean rooms and reception area. The staff friendly enough. If there is no fair when you go, you might get the price as low as what I paid. During fairs, the same rooms could cost almost up to 5 times. I think I got the lowest price. I did not take their breakfast for €11. Lastly the location : at the beginning of a street (I forget the name) in front of the station. Cross the square and pass by Mc Donals's. You will be there within 5 minutes even with luggage. I read some reviews that said there were prostitutes on this street but I did not notice any.

Hi

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Marconi a couple of years back. I have written a bit about it in my trip report with pictures on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/italy_milan.htm :d . Maybe you can find some useful info there.

I stayed at the Hotel Berna last Feb. It is just a 5 minute walk from the station. I booked it on Venere, very resonable and a really good hotel.
For only a 1/2 day I would go to see the Duomo, be sure to walk the roof! You can also people watch in the square and take a walk through the Galleria. enjoy.

I stayed at Hotel Berna about 5 years ago. It is about 50 meters farther down the same street where Augustus is located.

As Olympic suggested, Duomo seems to be the obvious thing to do. Take the subway Yellow line (B or C?), direction Donato. Duomo stop is the 4th. The lower half of the front part is covered (for at least two years, they told me) but this 4th biggest church is the world is impressive in side too. If you have, go up to the roof top where you can walk around and see the roofs of Milano. Stairways €4 and elevator €7. Walk thru the Galleria Emanuel (?) arcade till you see La Scala on the other side with the statue of Leonardo (Da Vinci). Next to Duomo, the department store la Rinascente is open surprisingly till 22.00 incl Sunday. Perhaps last minute shopping? Also it has a terrace cafe on the 7th floor from where you can see Duomo.
