Milan Duomo Tour

Hello Fodorites,

We are in Milan for just one day and see that there are tours of the Duomo for 90 minutes that allow you to skip the line. Since our time is so limited wondering if you think it is worth doing the 90 minute tour and/or how bad would it be if we just wait in line to get in? We will no arrive until around noon and just have until that evening. Finally, is there a skip the line pass we can buy that doesn't include a 90 minute tour necessarily?

Thanks so much.

Last time I was in Milan, I was there around lunchtime and line for security perhaps had 10-15 people in it, and took minutes (no X-ray, just looking into bags and feeling by wand), after buying ticket in the ticket office just round the corner (cheapest 3 euro). Place is fairly well labeled in Italian and English, and a good guide book will give you background details. I was there for around 30-40 min and it was sufficient for me. No audio guide I could find, but there is free app you can download from the official www.duomomilano.it site.

great info....thank you so much!

Get a fast pass online before you leave. The line when we went in September stretched all the way to Bologna. We walked right in. Check out the link below ... it tells the story with photos. be sure to get the pass that gets you on the rooftop.

maitaitom....can you tell me if the skip the lines passes are sold without the tours. I only see them with the tours....? Your pictures are fantastic!

By the way, you don't enter where everyone else does. There is an entrance on the right side and you'll go to the rooftop first by elevator (an incredible sight from many angles). We got there a little early and they let us go up.

Sorry to be a pain but which one of these passes do we get if we want both the roof and the Duomo? It’s a little confusing. I think one is reduced (ridotto?) ticket but we are all adults so don’t likely qualify as I think those are for children if a certain age. But that’s not the confusing part. It’s the one that says terrazza or the other one? The fun part of travel is trying to figure these out I guess 😀

Perhaps it’s the full pass? When I go into October it’s only in Italian

maitaitom Sep 10th, 2019 11:20 AM

Full pass gets you the whole enchilada. By the way, be sure to take that elevator back down, and not the stairs, because the stairs put you back outside the cathedral. Luckily they let us back in. The Full Fast pass ticket also gets you free admission to the Duomo Museum across the street (located in the Royal Palace). The savings in time definitely was worth the extra cost. By the way, I totally understand your confusion. It's not really very well clarified on their website, so I was hesitant as I made my decision on this. For once, I actually got it right. (:

Very helpful! but....i still don't know which pass to pay if I don't want the whole enchilada and just the duomo and rooftop :o)

mikster Sep 10th, 2019 12:02 PM

Sounds like I need the full pass on rereading....can't wait until i have to figure out the train :o)

Are there stairs one can go up as well as down? We don’t like elevators.

maitaitom Sep 14th, 2019 10:22 PM

Yes, there are stairs.

Yup, Milan's Duomo is spectacular inside-out! I could just stare at the architecture the whole day.

emily_jablon Sep 15th, 2019 04:29 AM

Ahh I personally have never been inside, the queue was too massive so we decided to splurge out on the dinner overlooking Duomo instead.

"the queue was too massive so we decided to splurge out on the dinner overlooking Duomo instead." Hence the need for Fast Track tickets (:
