Milan airport--which one
 

I will be training into Milan and staying at the Hotel Berlino Via Giovanni Antonio Plana, 33--when I go to leave I need to fly to Paris..which airport is the easiest to get to with public transport from where I am staying--Linate or Malpensa airport.. Thanks

If tickets much cheaper go for either one - Malpense is connected to Milan by 2 train lines with direct service from Cardona Station near center of Milan and Centrale a ways out - Linate has no direct trains to airport I believe but has a train station on edge with shuttles. Linate is much closer in so a taxi would not be too bad.

But you could take the high-speed train to Paris and see the lovely counryside in between but does take a tad over 7 hours but tickets can be as low as 29 euros - too long for many but if like to relax and see French and Italian countryside and Alps en route...for great info on trains check www.voyages-sncf.com (book your own discounted tickets there); www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

And there also is a direct overnight train on that route with private compartments - bring food and drink aboard and chill.

The train sounds good but I need to fly out in the morning as my flight out of CDG to LAX leaves at 2:15pm. It looks like my hotel is near the Garibaldi station that would get me on the train line to Malpensa..so what airlines fly out of Malpensa to CDG-- saw Easyjet and Air France...any others I can look into?? Yes day trains the day of flight are out but overnight train gets in early in morning.

Originally I thought you were going to Paris to stay but if going just to fly out of course flying is the only sensible way and would not have even mentioned trains.

PalenQ--thanks for always coming to my rescue with good info and advice...leaving out of Malense via Easy Jet seems to have the times that work for me. :)

Check that Easy Jet actually flies into CDG. The EasyJet website is easy to navigate to figure these things out. We fly fairly often between Milan and Bergerac, but have never done it to Paris.

To make that 2:15 connection you are going to have to fly from Linate since the EasyJet flights from MXP will not get you to CDG in time.

Were it me I would fly out of Milan the night before and spend the night in Paris. If your flight out of Milan is cancelled or badly delayed, you will miss the flight to LA and that airline will not be obliged to honor your ticket and give you a seat on the next flight. You'll need to buy a new ticket unless you can find some way to to get affordable trip insurance that would cover it.

Generally speaking it is always easier to fly out of Linate airport, since it is closer to the centre of Milan and has fewer passengers using the airport.

While you are focusing on ease of getting to an airport with public transit, you realize your plan is risky and items you are not paying attention now have significantly more impacts.

I don't really have too much choice as I already have my airline ticket and I have the hotel booked in Milan with no days to spare to spend another night in Paris-- it looks like there are several flights to CDG on Easy Jet (just have to hope there are not strikes/delays)--here are my possibilities:
LIN to CDG Easy Jet 8:40-10:15 and 8:55-10:30
LIN to CDG Air France 9:50-11:25
MXP to CDG Easy Jet 8:50-10:20

I'd take the earliest one regardless of airline.

I agree with Pal on this for sure BUT two Easyjet flights from the same airport to CDG spaced 15 minutes apart ON THE SAME DAY? I think you need to look again.

As Massimop says, what you are doing is risky. Definitely take the earliest flight, but also look for statistics about on-time arrival of the flights. Here is a web site that does that for you.

I'm not sure this is the website I used in the past, so I have no idea how up-to-date its statistics are. As recommended you might also want to look into insurance that will cover flight delays, but read the small print to see if it will cover the cost of a new ticket to LA.

Actually, it looks like three flights Malpensa to Charles De Gaulle, five minutes apart.

On Skyscanner, on a random weekday in January, I don't see any of those Easyjet flights. I see a 6:30 flight and an 11:20 flight on Easyjet, and a 7:40 and 11:05 flight in Air France. If you can get a flight before 8 AM, I would.

bvlenci -- wow, thanks for the flight stats site--according to this site both flights out of Linate and MXP have above a 90% on time rating...will go with the earliest flight time and keep my fingers crossed-- and Dukey1, you are right about not having 2 flights go out of the same airport on the SAME DAY!! My mind was doing weird things!! Thank you all for your help!!

Linate is a short taxi ride from central Milan, while Malpensa is quite a distance out of town, though with good transportation options there.

MXP can be reached by train. Yes it IS an hour out and Linate is closer but most travelers are going to take all of that into consideration. It has nothing to do with frequency of flights or when they land at CDG which is what the OP is concerned about.

And yes there are always the possibilities of delays, and cancellations, and everything else that can go wrong with a flight especially the one you HAVE to make but that is part of travel now.

How do you minimize the possibility of a crash, a delay, a strike, etc.? You take the train perhaps OR you change those hotel plans that on this thread seem to be etched in STONE.

What airline are you flying out of CDG?

If it is AF or an AF partner, then I'd book AF into CDG as well.

I'd suggest also staying in Paris night before -you never know what may pop up as regards strikes, slow downs and late planes.
