Milan Airport Hotel/ Panic
Hubby going to Milan on business and all hotels in town as well as Malpensa are sold out. Any suggestions to something within 1/2 to Malpensa for an early flight. In town is also a problem. We have checked all immediate Malpensa hotels.
Thanks for your help. |
Hi kadurk, don't panic. There is a small town just northeast of Malpensa. The name of it is Gallarte. Small industrial city with a parklike center surronded by cafes, shops etc. Assume you meant that he needs to be within 1/2 hours of Malepensa. Well Gallarte it is not more than 5 miles from Malpensa, he can take a taxi.
One hotel is BestWesterJetHotel. It is a 4 star plus other hotels. Suggest you Google Gallarte Hotels and you can review the choices. |
He can also book in the town of Stresa, right on the lake in Lago Maggiore and catch a bus to Malpensa. He can take a train to Stresa the night before, but he should tell his hotel that he needs a reservation on the bus to get Malpensa by X:00 am.

Yes Stresa is a thought also. I was just trying to pick a real close place. Let us know what you work out kadurk.

Thank you for your help. Things are not looking too good at this point. There are rooms for 700E per nite or more but NOTHING in the airport area all the way to Milan and beyond. We found out that the biggest furniture show in the world is during that period. They have a room one nite in the city but cannot find anything else, and our experience with the train situation in Milan as well as in Italy is to be near the airport in order to get an early flight. Thanks for your help we will keep searching. Should be interesting. I told him that wherever he ends up I will be in Paris to meet him on April 6th. Now we just have to worry about the riots as we are staying in the Latin Quarter. Oh well.

Did you try Hotel Astoria in Busto Arsitzio? Close to Malpensa, 50 min. to Milan. Good hotel, very good restaurant. I stayed there many time in my business trips.
|
Another good thought. Actually the small city is spelled Busto Arsizo.
kadurk, what time does your husband have to check in at Malpensa? |
he has a 7:30 a.m. flight to Paris. We usually stay at Villa Malpensa because of the convenience. We are still working on this and I will try the last few towns that you mention. He has business in Milan but the nite prior to the flight is important to be at the airport hotels. When we were in flying out of Milan in Nov. we ran into some people who had depended on the train to get out to the airport from Milan and they were on a slow down so many of the people on our flight had missed their previous flight. Some had to wait a few days longer to get on a flight. He travels so much he has learned to stay at airport hotels when he has an early flight. Thanks again for the suggestions.

kadurk, there is the Malpensa Shuttle Bus that goes between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and the Central Train Station in Milan. No need to take the train (in fact you can only take the train from the other train station in Milan).
Go to www.malpensashuttle.it, click on the flag for the English version and you will see all the info. Believe you said you did find a room for your husband in Milan..but if I were he I would (or have you do it) check out the hotels in Gallarte. It is just a few miles from Malpensa, he can take a taxi for very little. There is even a bus I believe from Gallarte to Malpensa but for such a short ride I would personally prefer the taxi. Gallarte is only something like 4 miles from Malpensa Airport. |
You realize, of course, that if he wants to he could take a train from Milan at about 4:15 PM and be in Paris 6.5 hours later or take a nightn train leaving at 11:30 PM and be in Paris the next morning at 08:30 but I assume he's already make plane reservations...unfortunate.

After reading your post, I'm concerned about our plans. I will be leaving from Malpensa in July, traveling with my husband and 4 children. I thought we would spend one night in the city so that we could see the Duomo and Last Supper. We have a 10:30am flight. I assumed the best hotel location would be near the Duomo so that we could drop off our luggage (coming from Venice), see the Duomo, then Last Supper. Taxi to airport the next morning. Will that work? Or do we also need to be near the airport? Any hotel recommendations.
Thanks! |
I had a 10:45 a.m. flight out of Malpensa Airport. We stayed at the Diana Majestic (Sheraton) hotel in Milan.
We had a taxi cab waiting for us at 7:30 a.m. and it took about 45 minutes to get to the airport. It was a Sunday morning and there was no traffic on the roads. |
On the recommendation of someone on
SlowTrav we're staying in a *** in Oleggio. 20 min from Malpensa. I don't have my info at hand but IIRC it is Hotel La Portetta. |
Thank you for the information regarding the last hotel. As far as staying in town and taking a taxi. We stayed at Una Cusani which was great and if you are staying in Milan on a weekend it certainly is easier to get the taxi to the airport on the weekend. You have to make sure your hotel arranged the night before for a taxi. Una Cusani was great when they did it for us on two occassions but it was on a Sunday in the early afternoon and we stayed at Villa Malpensa for our 10:30 a.m. flight the next day. It is a chance that you take on the day of the flight. If you are going to "The Last Supper" make sure you make arrangements asap. If you do it directly with them there is no cost if you do not show up but we were one short in our party from our original plans and I had to pay for her. No big deal it was certainly worth it. Good Luck.

Thanks for your help! Our flight is on a Wednesday. I haven't made my hotel reservations yet. However, I did try to reserve the last supper from a web site recommended on this forum. They replied that reservations are not accepted for July until the end of March and they would submit them & confirm then for us. I guess we will just have to give ourselves plenty of time to get to the airport.
