Milan / 8 Days
 

We got a really good price to go to Milan in Nov. for 8 days.
I have been to Milan before, but would like to return for a
few days and then do some day trips (or longer) but am not
sure where to go that time of year. Lake Como ? (weather)
Any suggestions ? (We will be flying out of Milan as well)

I wouldn't go to any of the lakes. Too many restaurants, shops and hotels would be closed for the season, ferry service would be too infrequent for exploring, the weather iffy. Some good-sized towns are less season-dependent (Como, for example) but wouldn't have enough to interest me in going there when there are so many other options.

Where else have you been besides Milan?

Obvious day trips from Milan: Torino, Bergamo, Parma, Cremona. Also Verona, Genova, Lugano possible.

On the other hand: lake Como may be not so attractive in bad weather, but if you happen to have a *clear* and sunny day, take the train from Milano Cadorna to Como Lago. You cannot really tell in advance. Clear days are not frequent but not impossible either.

and many towns in between. Enjoyed it all ...

well, you could drive up to the shores of Lake Maggiore and see if there's anything going on [Stresa is definitely worth a look] and then drive west towards Aosta, and or down to Turin and then east to Asti. How far you went would depend on how much driving you wanted to do.

Alternatively, you could go in the other direction to Bologna, Modena, Parma, etc. - probably easier if you don't want to drive.

i would put any days you want to spend in Milan at the end of the trip so as to be in the right place to fly home.
